Beatles Rock Band

edited September 2009 in General Chat
I finally played it yesterday, and I have to say that the opening cinematic (and 'cinematic' is the right word) was so beautiful it gave me chills. Most of it was animated by the guy who animates the Gorillaz video, and the surreal parts are part Salvador Dali and part Dr. Seuss with a little Alice in Wonderland thrown in. It's too bad some of their most famous songs aren't available yet - no 'Yesterday', no 'Penny Lane', and no 'Eleanor Rigby'?

    It's a fun game.

Yesterday and Eleanor Rigby lack drums, so they wouldn't really be acceptable on the disc. They'll probably pop up as DLC at some point.

I hate the Beatles and I hate plastic guitars even more.

Then boy, have we got just the game for you!

I'm dying to get this, but broke ShaggE is broke. I'll likely just get the disc. I love the Beatles, but it'll be just as fun playing with the normal instruments.

*waits for the inevitable "omg u guiz pleh a reel intrumint! stohp liekin tings i doan liek!" post*

You'll enjoy this article. I personally love The Beatles, but I can't stand Beatles bores who just go on and on and on

Wow. I don't know what's worse, the obvious "Look at me!"-ness of that guy, or the overly-defensive fans calling for his head.

As I said before, I love the Beatles. I'm listening to them right now, in fact. But to act like they are messiahs that can never be laughed about is ridiculous. I got a solid chuckle at the "Silly Love Songs" joke in the article, and lightning didn't crash upon my skull.

While I disagree vehemently with him saying that songs such as "Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da" and "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" are crimes against music, his saying so hasn't detracted the value of their music one iota.

As for the site itself: It's hilarious. But why does it exist, exactly? I hate The Rolling Stones, but you don't see me making a site called "paintitwack.lol", or doing interviews for the BBC.

So, on one side you have an attention-starved troll who just happens to be witty, and on the other, you have a bunch of self-righteous fans who take the Beatles far more seriously than the Beatles ever took themselves.

    tl;dr: Faith in humanity -1.

    Love the game.

Always been a casual fan of the Beatles, mostly from listening to the Sgt Peppers album on loop as a kid, but this game's has got me into them all over again.

edit: oh i guess it's my first plastic guitar game too.

It's awesome. I am going to go play it a lot when I get home :)

I didn't think I'd ever get into the plastic instrument games, but I was defeated by The Beatles.

I'm the only person I know who plays guitar who doesn't hate the plastic guitars. Everyone looks at it like its sacrilege to imitate the almighty six stringed beast, tis just a bit of fun

I just don't think it's fun to jab buttons according to when they float by on the screen, it's boring and repetitive to me.

Yeah, I don't get the problem.
If anything, it's making me want to pick up real guitar again. Not that I was ever that good at real guitar, but I'll give it some extra effort this time.
S'got my bro into drums in a big way as well.

Anything's boring and repetitive when you strip it down to its bare bones.
In Mario games all I do is hold right and press a button every so often, but it doesn't make them any less fun.

There's no substance behind a rhythm game of any kind. There's no game design, there's nothing but "these things fly by and you have to hit the buttons when they do"

You're not flying a spaceship around, you're not jumping around fighting enemies, you're not shooting at things, you're poking buttons at the right time, it's like playing an extremely long QTE, which I also detest.

There's probably no point arguing this, because you seem pretty hard set on it all.

Sorta sounds like real guitar, all i'm doing is putting my left hand in the right place and moving my right hand up and down. The real point with both is execution and timing

Over-trivialising I know. if I was to come up with a gripe for it all in comparison to real guitar its the lack of feel...and that I have to have the volume on the TV roaring to overcome the noise of the imposter guitar clicking.

But yeah there's some fantastic rhythm games out there, like Rhythm Paradise on the DS, very clever, well put together and great cleverness in its soundtrack, Elite Beat Agents isn't bad either

err, what do you think playing a song on guitar is? (Not writing that's different).

I played it at PAX and had a grand ol' time.

I don't suggest doing solo singing for "I Want You" though. Most awkward 5 minute outro known to man, and you just STAND up there...

^ Bahaha. I'd be more worried about doing the "she's so heavy" line. That kind of lung power is nigh impossible for those of us with a nicotine habit. (Unless the solo version divides that part so that you sing all three "heavy"s, thus giving you a split second to breathe)

They're pretty fun for parties, but I can't see why you would want to buy newer versions. Most of these games are the same from installment to installment.

And it sucks in Australia. Rock Band came out here the same time RB2 came out over there in America, and RB2 still isn't out yet.

    Rock Band = Fail

Guitar Hero = Slightly less Fail (but still fail)

Yeah, Guitar hero was out on time but RB is a load of shit, 2 still isn't out here, and beetles rock band costs 1.5x as much as GH5.

I love me some Beatles Rock Band, but yeah, the song list is disappointing. I just wanted to sing Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite... (luckily it's coming on DLC eventually)

    That, and Heroin.

I love the game too as a massive Beatles and plastic guitar fan, its perfect!

As the OP said, there are so many great songs not included but many wouldn't work as a traditional band.

For example, Eleanor Rigby had none of the Beatles playing ANY instruments. No drums OR guitars would be quite tricky.

    Maybe one for Viola Hero.

I want to sing this version from Across The Universe: www.youtube.com/watch?v=59ahx9ckqIw

Eddie Izzard stole the show with that scene. :D
