I'm ok with them. I think they might be responible for the monkey head and loosely related to the cannibals and the voodoo lady. But there's no way of knowing.

Yes but would you date one?

I would have like them a LOT better if they didnt have a species name (ie: just called merfolk) and looked more human.

I try to make it a habit not to date individuals of a different species. Especially Digital ones.

I thought it was more of a nationality name, not a species name.

And I think the androgynous inhuman look is far more interesting than a traditional cliche mermaid would have been.

And lets face it, if they were human, they would probably be using the same character models as everyone else (Short/fat or tall/thin)

Considering Anemone says s/he's "Vacaylian Merfolk", that seems to be the case. Especially since "Vacaylian" is also used for the wind-worshiping land-walkers.

    Agreed.

And no, I wouldn't date one. The gender ambiguity and the fact that their somewhat fishy anatomy kind of spoils the mood.

But they did say that they had the abillity to replace their tails with legs so to survive on land.

Well I think Vaycaylian was the name humans called them to which the merfolf adopted it.

    Hated them.

Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman were okay with them, that's good enough for me.

you are allowed to form your own opinions

i liked them, i like the idea of them, and it adds to the experience trying to figure out which are male and female.

my guess is librarian was male and mast repairs was female, chief no idea but erring on female. would i date a real vaycalian? umm no, apart from mechanical issues involved, fish are covered in slime. plus one of us needs to be taken out of their comfort zone. i'm not wearing scuba gear, nor am i using a wading pool (new definition of waterbed anybody)

For me, even though I've already commented, I can stomach the Vacaylians but I don't think they should be a HUGE part of the story or be referenced ALL the time.

I didn't find them interesting but not really annoying either.

At first, I hated them. But there are mystical creatures of the sea in many pirate stories. So they can also fit in the Monkey Island series.

Dude you just gave me a great idea for a monkey island story. What if Guybrush and crew crash on an island after hearing a siren!
