MI Movie?

This may be way too hopeful, but I was thinking that with the sudden revival of the MI chain (ToMI & MI:SE) maybe they might be considering making one? I know PotC was supposed to "be it" but I'd prefer an honest MI movie.

Naah. I'd rather play more adventure games.

Sure, I'd take games over movie any day. But a movie would be interesting. Preferably NOT animated, of course. But it would HAVE to have Dominic Armato in it.

Monkey island has plenty of cartoon stuff in him. A live action movie would just look stupid. Rubber chicken and grog machines? That won't work at all. A CGI movie might be ok, but I'd pass.

    Id loved an animated movie

Sadly since the PotC movies came out I seriously think that there will never be a real Monkey Island movie. Because PotC had so many Monkey Island elements in it (vodoo lady, "silly" pirates, ghost pirates, cannibals, etc.), a real Monkey Island movie would be considered by many unknown viewers to be an uninspired clone of the PotC movies.
And therefor it will never be shot.

The new PotC movie is called On Stranger Tides which (ironically?) is a book that the original Monkey Island was based on. Disney needs to get together with LucasArts on this one.

Naw...the only Guybrush ever is Dom. Think he's too old now to act as him anyway.

    I hope not, because:
    a) it would look very derivative of PotC
    b) movies made from games are generally awful.

You mean like "Street Fighter" starring Jean Claude Van Damme and Kylie Minogue?

There was a MI movie in the pipelines but it fell through. Until they decided to th PotC movies. The first one was actually written by the guy who began writing the MI movie, which is why there are so many things in common with PotC and MI

There are actually a striking amount of similarities between Pirates of the Caribbean and Monkey Island. I didn't make it, but this video captures the similarities pretty well:

It's too bad that Pirates is so similar...it means we'll likely never see a Monkey Island movie. :(

Just get a PotC movie, edit it so it says Guybrush instead of Jack and LeChuck instead of Barbosa. Voila!

I think a MI movie would only work if handled by Tim Burton, his style would fit MI2 / CMI art style very well, could use Dom as the voice, and would probably have music which was a fan favorite part of CMI.

Do you REALLY want to hand Tim Burton another adaptation? Please note his horrible, irredeemable work on Planet of the Apes and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

And I'd like something that looked like an Errol Flynn pirate film. The Pirates of the Caribbean films actually are very close to the look I'd love.

The color palette of the first Pirates film seemed to be lifted straight from Monkey 2. The nighttime stuff that is just black/blue/white, cut with warm windows and fireplaces and "below decks" areas which are nothing but red/orange/yellow/green, etc.

Nice to see that people are still posting this. I had no idea it would get so many hits when I made it a couple of years ago.

On topic though: that concept art by Purcell for the cancelled movie is great. I wish they went with his Guybrush design for the SOMI: Special Edition.

That's your video? Awesome job! That's one of my favorite comparison videos between Monkey Island and Pirates, simply because it's not a comparison video. There are lots of other videos out there, but I think yours does the best job and is really funny to boot.

Whenever I want to show someone the similarities between the two, I use your video. :)

That's the same sensation I had when I watched that film for the first time.

Totally agree, I'd love an animated movie based around those designs. And yes, that Guybrush is brilliant, LucasArts really buggered it up for the SE in my (and a lot of other people's) opinion.
