Tales of Monkey Island - Romance Appreciation Thread

There have been quite a number of Morgan / Elaine / whatsoever appreciation threads in here lately. That gave me the idea of summing it up in one short video about the romantic going-ons in the series so far.

So here's to everyone of you hopeless romantics (spoilers, ye be warned):

Wow that video is really... touching. You did a great job, honestly!

BeeKay, thanks, it actually turned out more touchy than originally intended (I think you can blame the soundtrack for this. *g*)

Now that it's on YouTube, I just don't hope that a newbie gets all confused about what Tales of Monkey Island is about anyway. :D It's still a funny pirate adventure and I would like it to remain so, yet I really like where Telltale is going with the "extended" love triangle, so I thought it would be interesting to spotlight this as well.

    Love square? Love rhombus?

Let's just call it a "love polygon" and leave it open to new sides.

You think there will be even more characters involved?

Right.. *sigh* Guess I'll have to come up with a new concept for a video then. :D

I haven't started yet, but I'm pretty sure Guybrush's "Oh boy..." would fit in that video as well...:D

Yeah, could very well be because of the soundtrack. ;)

Well, de Cava thinks Guybrush is after the Voodoo Lady, so that already includes two more... :D

Anyone thought of LeChuck and the Voodoo Lady to end up together?
After all, they have a common hobby...

I think Governor Phatt is after the Voodoo Lady, that's why he imprisoned De Cava..
Also, Murray is clearly onto Morgan, and so is Van Winslow with Guybrush!

    Don't forget Noogie.

Cool video, though I hate that song.

well, winslow and morgan do have a bit of a moment at the end of 103....

Aww, Guybrush needs to stroll up to Morgan, show her he's not afraid of her bloody tactics (even if he is a bit.. or a lot), grab her shoulders and plant a smoocher on the lips. (And in True MI style, pull away after to reveal her shiney lipstick had rubbed off onto him.)

Wishful thinking, I know. Unless TellTale let you have a dating sim style choice at the end of Ep 5 as to who Guybrush wil sail off into the sunset with. (Unlikely but hey, I'd like to see it!) Elaines okay, but eh. Morgan's a cutie. A cut-throat cutie, but a cutie.

Goes to show just how serious toned this new Monkey island game is when someone can make a legitimate video on romance for the game. This is the first time in the series when Guybrush and many other characters truly expresses emotions and concerns with love and mistakes.

True, but thats one of the things TellTale were truely praised for, giving the characters real emotion. In MI4 the closest we get to Guybrush's face is when his time traveling self rafts passed him in a swamp - its pretty much the same frozen face on him the whole time. I really like this new older Guybrush, the slick blue coat (what smells of bacon fat) is the most piratey he's looked in years, and the expressions he gives are spot on as a person could imagine.

It makes me really proud that scenes from Monkey can be turned into a romantic video

I don't think this would be "True MI style". I don't remember anyone in an MI game kissing before - not even Guybrush and Elaine. Well, if you don't count that anonymous couple in front of the stairs of Elaine's Booty Island mansion in MI2...

You're welcome guys. I really like the fresh touch you've given MI and this is my personal little homage.

Neither do I. Sort of reminds me of the time when I was an X-phile as a teen and desperately wanted Mulder and Scully to come together. It took yeeears before they finally ALMOST kissed in the first movie picture - and yet they didn't because Scully got stung by a bee that very moment and turned her head away. I still hear the gasping from the audience. :D

Part of this love story's / game's success lies in keeping up suspense.

There's only one romance meant for this game, and thats MurrayxMorgan

Morgan and Guybrush should get together, and Elaine and LeChuck should get together (both as evil zombie pirates). Who's with me?

OMG..you're right. Need to put them in somewhere...or maybe make another video about the manatee romance in TOMI.

Me. Well, sort of. The zombie pirate bit isn't a must but I think that after all those years of fighting and evil plotting LeChuck has finally deserved to have Elaine. Plus it's getting ridiculous in my eyes that so many attempts she'd still slip away from him.

Ron Gilbert never wanted Guybrush and Elaine to marry, we all know that, but I wonder how he would have developed the LeChuck-Elaine aspect in his MI 3?
