trouble activating Bioshock

edited October 2009 in General Chat
Hi everyone.
I know this doesn't really belong in the telltale forum at all, but the support of 2k games didn't help me at all. (I've als tried other forums)
it's alreaddy the fourth time, that bioshock wants me to enter the serial number for activating the game. As far as I know, you can only activate it five times, so I'm running out of tries.
after entering it one time the game works and even after restarting the PC it still works. But some days later it wants me to enter that srial numer again.
I've tried turing out UAC as well as my antivir program.
Didn't work. (that's also everything the support had to offer)
since I don't want to waste all my activations, I downloaded the Revoke tool. (You can delete your activation on you PC and on the server with that, and get another activation credit) But it tells me, that the programm is not activated on my PC and so the revovation can not take place.
Im running the game on a laptop, which is use on multible internet accespoints of cause. Today is the fitst time, I'm using it in another place since the last activation and it is askin me for the serial number again.
Might there be a coherence?
I hope someone here can help me.

There could be something on your computer that is causing the activation system to think that you're on a new computer, when you're not. Telltale had this problem on a few games when Vista first came out. One of the criteria the activation software was looking at to determine if it was the same computer or a new one changed every time you rebooted in Vista. Oops. :p (This was before Telltale used SecuROM by the way, so it might be similar to what you're experiencing but probably isn't the exact same problem.)

If you're not getting support from 2K, you could try emailing SecuROM and explaining them problem to them (support@securom.com). Once a game is activated it's supposed to stay that way; your computer should not require a new serial number every few days.

I'd awful hassle with Bioshock activating and I wasn't gonna fart about waiting for replies to emails, so I just grabbed a crack online to remove the security.

It's still a ridiculous scenario when I have it's easier to use a tool that really exists mostly for the benefit of pirates than go through the legitimate channels

    thanks everyone.
acoording to 2k forums the activation limit has been removed.
I just will have to enter that f+++++g number again and again.
If I ever get the message, that I can't activate it anymore, I will have to try that certain other things.

....you could always download a crack for the game. I mean, you already paid for it and all, so it's not stealing.

I think that's a grey area, but it's another alternative.

i dont mind when games have some protection, but when the lengths bioshock does, it make me never want to buy from the company. and for the record, i HAVE passed up some of 2k's games because of my bad experience with this.
