I squealed like a little girl and started jumping up and down. I wish I could link you guys to the Mixnmojo newspost that announced it, but it got so overloaded with comments it's inaccessible.
I'm surprised that so many people seemed to have not have heard of TTG before ToMI (acronyms are fun!). I have to be honest, I wasn't really much of an adventure game fan before I fell in love with Telltale. That doesn't mean I didn't like adventure games, I just was never really aware of the history of the genre. For you hardcore adventure fans, now that you've discovered Telltale, how do you feel about it as a company? Have you tried the other games? Did Telltale Texas Hold 'Em make you a poker addict? Are you planning on hiring mariachis for your birthday? And do you think Mr. Gabberly will ever be more than just a voice floating through the ether?
I got really excited back when I saw Sam & Max Season 1 announced on Steam, but played the demo and was actually a bit disappointed - the characters and gameplay just didn't seem as sharp as the original, and I found the Soda Poppers kids really annoying. I never got around to buying the full season.
However ToMI was just too much for me to resist, and I guess playing it has got me more used to TTG's style of writing and gameplay. I've now gone back and bought both seasons of S&M to play thru while I wait for Ep4 Really enjoying them this time, I just think it took a few episodes for the season to get going - Abe Lincoln Must Die was awesome and features one of the most fantastically comedy moments of any game ever -
the "War" song
. I'm still laughing now remembering it from yesterday. Funnier, yes, even funnier than the musical numbers from MI2 and S&M:HTR.
So it's not that I hadn't heard of TTG before, but ToMI has definitely led me to appreciate them in a new light. Although I can't say I'm too bothered about Texas Hold 'Em, I love poker but it's a game for sitting around with a bunch of mates, cigarettes and a crate of liquor - then robbing 'em all blind For the same reason I've never once been inclined to try out the whole online poker fad of late. (Seriously, how can you play a heavily psychological card game when you and your opponents can't even see each other?)
I was speaking with someone, he told me he found out about the new monkey island game and I said "cool, haven't seen one of those for a while they used to be really good, hope this one's good" or something to that extent. I later pre-ordered it when I had time.

See, that's why it's the perfect game for me. I suck so bad at bluffing the only chance I have at winning is for my opponents not to see me. Even then I barely win, and I seem to do better when I'm not really paying attention to the cards.
I'm glad you got into Sam and Max though. My brother had the same sort of reaction; he started 101 and never really finished it. Then after much convincing, that didn't involve twisting arms at all, he played through season two and loved it. I think Telltale had a better handle on what works episodically when they designed the second season. Makes me glad they didn't tackle MI first!
I just went on the Scumm Bar. I wanted music for a video I was going to make, and then... suddenly... I saw... "Monkey Island 5 announced!: Or, as it is called, Tales of Monkey Island." My head exploded with glee! When I awoke in the hospital, I jumped out of the bed and skipped home.
I found out about it in an e-mail from TellTale, and at first I couldn't believe it, but in a matter of seconds I was racing around the (sadly mostly empty) house shrieking my head off in excitement!
Oh boy, I wasn't NEARLY this excited when I first heard of SBCG4AP and thus TellTale through the Homestar Runner Wiki...
I can't recall the exact date, but it was early in the announcements of it. Maybe a day or two after it was announced. I found out about it on one of my weekly views of ScummBar.com
I was ecstatic at that point, and couldn't even believe what was happening. Based on the last news I heard from LucasArts, I didn't believe we'd see Monkey Island for a long, long time. I'm glad that was horribly wrong.
i was looking on gamespot.com for e3 announcements and one of the first announcements were the secret of monkey island special edition and tales of monkey island. i was so glad, but i must admit when i saw the trailer, i was not enthusiastic. i was not familer with telltale and thought the trailer looked not all that great, i didn't like the idea of episodic gaming, and i diddn't like the design of guybrush. thankfully i was so wrong because when i finnaly decided to buy it, i loved it.
Currently being in a fog from Percocet after a spinal fusion in August, I can't quite remember details, but ever since the 4th one came out, I would check the web for any word of another MI. Usually whenever I thought about it, but generally at least a few times a year.
I remember reading somewhere about LA having a big announcement for E3 this year and HOPED it would be about Monkey Island, but really wasn't sure. I put a sticky note* on my computer desktop with the date of the show and looked into it the day after. That's how I found out about the special edition of Monkey 1, and somewhere soon after I learned about TOMI. I had known about Telltale Games for a little while (you can't help but hear about them when doing searches on Monkey Island), but to be honest, nothing really interested me. I've since played an episode of Sam & Max, and although it's cute and funny, nothing can hold a candle to Monkey Island. There's just something very special about it.
I wish I could remember more detail, but needless to say, I was completely over-joyed (not to mention overwhelmed)! I'd been saying for years that there would never be another Monkey Island again, and it seriously saddened both me and my wife to think that. So cool to have it back! I hope it continues on for many more seasons, and I also hope that LA considers maybe remaking Monkey 2, as well as continuing the series once again.
* Shameless plug for an awesome and free utility. Sorry!
i remember picking up my MI1 CD and playing it in april. I remembered how fun it was and got hooked back on the lucasarts bandwagon. I remember checking Mixnmojo, saying that there was another rumor of a monkey island game, but it was quckly dismissed. So when E3 spun in, i was curious to see if maybe, just maybe any cool announcements were made. I saw Tales of MI, and MI SE, and basically fell about the place.

I remember my sister's boyfriend sending me a link to inform me of the remake of SOMI and I was REALLY excited for that. So I googled it of course. One of the links that popped up? "Tales Of Monkey Island". Never having heard of such a thing, I clicked it thinking maybe it'd be another fun fan site to browse. Of course, it was not. I FREAKED OUT and ran upstairs to tell my dad, who was infact the one who introduced me to the series. I had previously been up there to tell him about SOMI:SE so when I came up again looking excited he simply said "What is it now?" "NEW MONKEY ISLAND! $35! MUUUUSTTT HAAAVEEE". Needless to say, we preordered it that night. The rest of the night was spent smiling.
Brother found it and showed it to me and dad. All three of us went insane for the next few minutes. Dad bought all 5 on the spot for us. Mom just shook her head and left the room.
For years, i've periodicly searched the net for the news of a MI5, and when i finally lost hope and not have been looking out for it, a friend tells me a new game's out! Of course i screamed, and did a little mad victory dance around the house, but then it struck me: what if the game didn't meet my expectations?! Could i live with the disappointment after so many years of painful waiting? - and now i wish Ttg keeps them coming for hundreds of seasons! (I wanna be playing monkey island when I'm 95 in my deathbed! :P(of course it'll probably/hopefully be all virtual reality by then..))

No site can endure so much capslock.
