I think he looks as good as always.

I don't see much difference to his "old" look, except he's in 3D now. And in much better 3D than in EMI. So, yes, I like his look.
  • edited October 2009
Voted yes, but I'll need to see him in motion.

it looks (to me) like hes put on quite a bit of weight...it may just be my imagination =P

Looks perfect to me, instantly recognisable and just Stan to a tee. More so than the concept art IMO.

Can't wait to see him move!

If Guybrush can grow a beard, then I think Stan can grow a belly.
  • edited October 2009
Yeah, I'm fine with it. I also like the fact that he is selling Guybrush Merchandise in anticipation of his funeral.

I like it, but I think the artwork is better, I don't like his eyes in the 3D model..

Nice! I'm happy with it, though for some reason I think his chin should be a bit bigger. XD Anyhow, no real complaints! I'm looking forward to this chapter more than ever knowing Stan's going to be in it. :D

I voted yes, I like his new look - it's definitely Stan, only in 3D. :) I also like him here much more than in EMI, so yeah, I like the new look. Of course, I'd also need to see him in action, which might change my opinion (heh, here's a funny thing: when I first saw the new ToMI Guybrush on a static screenshot, I didn't quite like his appearance - I thought he looked high or stoned or something like that, at least very drunk; then when I started playing I realized how cool he actually is when seen in the game in action!)

I think his face looks different from the side.

does anyone else think Stans eyes look really small?

    ...is it new? What's new?

Does anyone else see a resemblance to Stan Smith from American Dad?

Now we know what Stan's been up to since EMI.... working for the CIA ;)

I very much approve of the new look btw!

Well, compared to EMI, he looks amazing, but I think that the voice is what will really make or break it for me.
  • edited October 2009
Voice will be important and animation will be important.

I do think the eyes might have been better as little black beady-eyes, without the whole 3D eyelids thing going on, but we'll see.

He'd better be the same voice actor from CMI and MI:SE...I didn't think he really embodied Stan, but he grew on me. Plus, lets keep some more of this great continuity stuff going.
  • edited October 2009
For me, almost any Stan is an improvement over his EMI look. Plus the voice will make or break it (hopefully Stan from SMI and MI:SE)

But I love the new Stan

looks pretty awesome to me! much better then EMI
  • edited October 2009
It's absolutely great. The best they could have done, really. I really can't wait to see what Stan's role in the story is.

    Stan looks fantastic...

But he also looks like how I might look if I aged thirty years and gained thirty pounds...
    And were a cartoon.

In-between because I dont know if they will retain the static pattern on his shirt when he moves. This is the deciding factor. Plus its weird to see the 3D CoMI model (its what it looks like to me)
  • edited October 2009
I like the new look quite a bit but I'm a little reserved about the hands, I mean, fingers. They're huge! Is this because it's implying his slyness?

As for animation, I'm interested in seeing how they're accomplishing this static checker look. Does it involve changing the UV mapping or something?

Looking forward to seeing him in action!

Just to say he's put on a couple of pounds. Maybe over the years he's been eating his stock of army food provisions (out of date lol) from his store "Stan's Army Provisions lol :D

Oh, come on. :( The spastic, out-of-place, completely uncalled for movements that looked like something out of an 80's game were GREAT! :D Plus the VA who voiced him did a good jorb!
  • edited October 2009
From the one screenshot we've seen, it LOOKS like they'll keep the static pattern. Although that would be REALLY hard to do in 3D, so maybe not.

*edit* Looks like the post I was referring to was deleted oh well they were talking about the hands

Stan's fingers follow the TOMI style.... all the characters have long skinny fingers.

TOMI just like all the other MI games have their own style and look... Stan looks perfectly like Stan yet still modeled in the TOMI style.

I guess so! I haven't really been keeping track of the hand models in the series, this one seemed to jump out at me. Best guess could be primarily because it's paired with short skinny legs, and an oblong torso.

I'm curious to know why my post was deleted? It's still there by my web-browser, tho.

I see it again ........ or maybe it was there before and my mind is playing tricks on me.... I blame video games.

Actually, making a static pattern on his shirt in 3D isn't as super hard as some of you guys think - it depends mostly on the way the texture is mapped to the surface, so as long as the ToMI engine (or at least its revision used in ch 4) allows planar mapping or whatever it's called properly (can't remember the term), or maybe projecting a texture from a light locally to the surface of Stan's shirt, it should be totally doable, at least there's a number of ways you can fake the effect of a non-moving pattern on a moving surface, I did a similar effect myself in Blender once. :) Personally I think they'll do it. Well, at least I hope... it's a big part of Stan's appearance. :D Well, then again, it's probably just a couple more days' wait till we see for ourselves and know for sure... *suspense*

P.S. And I do agree that his animation and his voice will be a big part of my final decision whether I like him in ToMI or not. He'll need proper gestures and a decent voice. I'd personally prefer to hear him voiced by the same VA who voiced him in CoMI and MI:SE. :)

the pattern certainly looks like its static in that screencap
  • edited October 2009
I think that maybe the effects on his shirt may only show up on certain quality settings, most likely 7-9, like the glow on lechuck's beard in chapter 1. If that's the case, too bad for me and any other people who have to set it on lower graphics settings.

Here's a little thought that crossed my mind just now: could those abnormally large stretched hands come from... his excessive gesticulation over all those years? :O Poor Stan... :D
