I'm as giddy as a fanboy that Monkey Island is fully back in true form. This episode sealed the deal in so many ways.
I do wish that Stan's voice actor would have been the returning one from Curse, I thought he was the best, but this guy wasn't half bad, and much better than the guy in Escape.
But I can't complain when EARL BOEN returns as LeChuck. I'm going to double the hoping that his lines get re-recorded for Episode 1's cursed LeChuck, for the DVD release at the very least.
Also, so many new animation sets for the characters! Especially Stan's arm waving.
Thank you Telltale, thank you so much for returning Monkey Island back to the people. I never thought it could happen, AND be this great.
Spoiler alert: Guybrush's hand being there was a mistake -- there has to be specific code running to replace it with the hook, which wasn't running when that shot was taken, and we missed it. We left it out there though even after people noticed, because speculation about it went too insane for us to pull it back so close to the episode's release.
There should be music there! Lots of it.
First of all kudos to you, after Escape from Monkey Island I feared that the saga was ruined forever. But in this Chapter 4 you got the feeling back and you hit it.
But that music bug he got there happened to me at random occasions that were easily fixed by re-entering the area.
Wow, if any of these episodes deserves its own place as Adventure Game of the Year, this is the one. Telltale, I can't possibly imagine how you guys are going to top this one.
By the way, you guys have brought back the true Monkey Island with this one. Thank you Telltale!
Anyone want to talk about how De Singe got brutally ground in to a fine powdery pulp? There can't be any way to come back from that? That I think will be the only true death in the Monkey Island universe.
And Largo. He got killed when the TNT exploded in the fortress (I think, although this has never been confirmed). Captain Marley died at LeChuck's hands (if we ignore EMI's change of canon). It's been hinted that Noogie got bumped off by his former comrades.
Anyone want to talk about how De Singe got brutally ground in to a fine powdery pulp?
Am I the only one who immediately thought "When it comes to shreds, De Singe is the expert?"
Anyway, this is easily the best episode yet. The only complaint I can levy is the fact that the hook unlocked three different locks, which seems very unnecessary. Other than that, I was blown away.
Weird how Morgan got stabbed with her own sword and if you suddenly go back, she is gone, who would take the body, it wouldn't be De Singe because he said at the end he ran away because of the blood on the floor.
I think it was Jacques the monkey, think bout it he was there just before she died and if he is an magnetic kinda monkey it kinda makes sense.
What do you guys think ?
I think it was the monkey, too. LeChuck has been controlling them and spreading them around the Gulf of Melange...for some reason.
After the beautiful game I thought: "Man, NO ONE is gonna believe me that my I wonder what happens stories are only theories of mine. Similar happenings in game and movie? Coincidence?? Bwuahahaha!"
Well, I cannot proove anything, but I try to make things clear:
... [ loads of excuses ] ...
I really don't want to know details about the story too soon. The unknowing is the funny part of the "I wonder what happens" series. Also, I'm a fan as well, I want to enjoy the whole game without any spoilers.
OK OK hast gewonnen ... du musst es besser wissen als ich mit meinen Vermutungen. War auch nur eine Theorie nachdem du den Hintergrund so absolut perfekt getroffen hast im ersten Video.
You're simply a genius and gathered more details then what I knew. I tend not to watch any spoilerific material for ToMI in order not to ruin my fun. Therefore I wouldn't know the sources for these details anyway. Great job nonetheless. They even got Stan's jacket right. You too, can't wait to wonder what happens next. I want to see a Pirate God of War Guybrush slaying demon pirates. Zack Zack!
By the way, did Guybrush hear Morgan's last words? The whisper about what the monkey told her?
I dont think so, but if the pair of them come back and have a bit of a reunion, I imagine it'd be a sort've awkward moment. Morgan's last words couldve probably been something all sweety-ditty but if shes back to life it'd prolly be more like "The monkey told me you had a crazed parylized cat stalk it. Smooth move." yknow?
I say all this in that I really hope she comes back. I had to take a break today from play to drive to the nearby city and it was just after her last words that i got called away, so for hours I was wondering about her fate. Coming back to finding her gone threw me off I must say.
I think Morgan will be back. Anyone else notice the rowboat disappeared? I think if Morgan was really dead, Taletale would have put a video scene in of the fight (perhaps moving the camera away for the 'death blow'). Anyone else think Guybrush will have to find his way out of a coffin?
Alright, this game was perfect. Here's a few highlights for me:
- Guybrush's reaction to Morgan's death. His comment when you click on the chemicals on top of the shelf - "...and not the funny kind" - was heartbreaking.
- The fights between Morgan and Elaine.
- Elaine's terrifying entrance into the courtroom.
- The entire trial, really, down to the audience's comments. The difference between The Judge and WP, for example.
- All the characters being fleshed-out, down to the sinking of the row boat. The way Hemlock looks at his cat made me aww.
- The fact that characters will act differently if Guybrush is around them or not.
- The expressions have always been great (my former favourite being DeSinge's reaction - "Ze winds!" - during the "Talk to the hand" bit in chapter one), but Morgan's hurt expression when Guybrush lays it to her was particularly memorable and emotional.
- DeSinge's very dark, very gruesome death. DeSinge not being French. DeSinge's backdoor.
- Magnetic Monkey and his best friend Paralyzed Tabby.
- The death of the Pyrite Parrot.
- Stan, really. The acting was a bit subdued but goddamn was he funny.
Loads and loads more. The only, and I repeat only, thing that startled me in a bad way was Morgan's
"Jacques the monkey told me your last words." I wonder what they are, by the way

I think it got mentioned, but the Rowboat didnt vanish. Position Guybrush towards the end of the dock so the water underneath is visable and you can click it. Long story short, its been sunk. "Probably by a poxed pirate." Threepwood notes. Im actually kinda bummed that we didn't get to see Winslow this chapter, he's been getting better as the story goes.
"Embrace the screaming Narwhal as if she were your second lover."
"I'm not sure Elaine would go for that."
"Well, you'll never know unless you ask."
ToMI - Ch 5. - There is a little bit of guybrush left in the game and a lot left in us.. .you will be playing the entire episode as his hand! Would add a great spin on insult sword fighting (Which the use of those lines between Mrs.Guybrush and LeChuck was in all ways epic)
How does a disembodied hand fight and flip the bird at the same time?!
I would imagine his hand would be dead aswell. It should have been cured of the pox along with everything else, leaving it to be just a severed hand.

Ever since playing Chapter 2 where you hear the line about "Vacaylian science being used to reatach our tails when we went back to living in the sea", I pretty much thought that would be how Guybrush gets his hand back... not contributing to what you said or anything, I know. I just want to be able to go "Ah, see! I called it!" if it actually happens... I'm petty like that, yknow. I can admit it.
I think that Lechuck is a darn good actor... how could this unholy evil seeking-power-of-darkness poxing pirate do that sort of evil thing to guybrush!?!
And he has the gutts to ask elaine to be his bride even after that!?!
I knew he would have his powers back!!!
Naarrrg!!!

I still wonder whether he was evil all along, or whether he was really a good guy in episodes 2 and 3 and became evil again because the voodoo lady hexed him in prison.
You guys added a whole new depth to the franchise. That is no mean feat.
Morgan's "death" left me agape. I can't recall a single truly sad moment in an MI game, let alone a Telltale game. The silence in DeSinge's lab and the relative lack of humor in 'Brush's descriptions of the items really drove the point home. (No pun intended)
Add that to the death of Guybrush, which I didn't even see coming until the sword went through him on account of LeChuck's incredibly smooth change of tone, and the surprisingly violent death of DeSinge, and you've managed to reinvent the series without making it feel gratuitous or cheesy.
I know that I say "best episode yet" on every new release, but honestly, this is the single greatest thing Telltale has ever made. Well done.
This is by far the best episode. really amazing job.and because no1 else said it here: I really laughed my pants off when guybrush makes himself angry in court by saying his own name wrong haha. plus the fight between guybrush threepwood mighty pirate tm and guybrush threepwood mighty pirate tm at law in prison was also hillarious.

Normally I wouldn't quote someone with adding my own thoughts, but what the hell? ShaggE sums it up perfectly.
I haven't posted before today because I am usually the sort to wait for all chapters to be published before I start playing (by which point, half the fun of a forum is lost) but thanks to a dull weekend a week ago, I played the first three chapters and joined in with the nerve-wracking build up to the chapter 4 release.
And it's been a fantastic journey... The gameplay seems a little too fast but the puzzles are at least varied and strangely enough rewarding and although I can moan about how quickly it takes to play, I feel that it is more than made up for with exceptional story-telling.
The narrative is first-rate. I don't think I have ever felt this emotionally involved. Morgan in particular was heartbreaking in chapters 3 and 4. She's an amazing creation. Not that Winslow is not... and not that the Guybrushe-Elaine-LeChuck triangle wasn't good enough... but it really pushed the story from being a backdrop to a computer game to being a genuinely riveting adventure tale. It's epic... it's a feature film but better.
This chapter is the best yet without a doubt. I totally agree with ShaggE's summary.
Anyone want to talk about how De Singe got brutally ground in to a fine powdery pulp? There can't be any way to come back from that? That I think will be the only true death in the Monkey Island universe.
But.... but..... THAT MEANS THE PYRITE PARROT IS DEAD TOO!!!!!
Well.... d'you remember in MI2, where Guybrush just happens to come across a crate full of voodoo supplies addressed to LeChuck, right outside her house?
Is it just me or would someone else dump Elaine in a heart beat and take Morgan instead? Well only if they both are brought back to life though
She is much more cuter both in flesh and voice.....lol
I still wonder whether he was evil all along, or whether he was really a good guy in episodes 2 and 3 and became evil again because the voodoo lady hexed him in prison.
If he really was just bluffing then it's quite a parallel to EfMI in a couple of ways thus far.
The pox of LeChuck coming from the massive weather device feels a little bit like the Ultimate Insult coming from that makeshift horn at Melee. The afflictions are different; One cripples pirates into gibbering wrecks, the other turns them into uber-nasty mode.
LeChuck comes to Melee on EfMI proclaiming free grog for all and what have you. Then he's the bad guy, having persuaded everybody he's a good guy. LeChuck is a good-guy in ToMI until it turns out at the last moment that he's really the bad guy (like last time).
Okay, stretching it a tad. But to quote a surfer-dude: 'partial originality is almost as bad as no originality.'
... Nah.
Great series thus far. The problem is that every time I get into the story I finish the episode and have a month to wait for the next installment!
I didn't mean to imply she was ACTUALLY a child, merely that she sounds like one. And, I reiterate, a whiny one.
Nothing against Nikki Rapp; I think the voice suits the character. But I'm still scratching my head as to why people think it's "cuter" than Elaine's.
Yeah, exactly. I find aspects of Morgan endearing, but she sounds like a child and her face is always pouty. It combined into a really shrill, annoying package when she decides to whine about something.
Comments
"Less plunder, more bunny..."
Anyway, best episode yet! As others have pointed out, this segment easily ranks with the best of MI -- period!
And EARL BOEN!!! Amazing!
You knocked it out of the park again.
I do wish that Stan's voice actor would have been the returning one from Curse, I thought he was the best, but this guy wasn't half bad, and much better than the guy in Escape.

In a nutshell!
What about DeCava and his crew? Did they die, or are they still alive in the manatee?
Also, I just wanna say... wow. That episode was amazing, to say the very least. I mean, I was totally blown away. WOW.
Am I the only one who immediately thought "When it comes to shreds, De Singe is the expert?"

This.
But she said there was a reason behind all this... what can it be???
Heh, thanks. I thought it was a bit gushy myself.
Just one of the many questions that Telltale know the answer to and will only reveal in a month's time. Man, I cannot wait!
