wow, i couldn't possibly imagine the voodoo lady's voice belonging to her.

Erm, that's not Nicki Rapp. That picture comes up in a Google search for "Nikki Rapp", but it's someone else. This is the picture Nicki Rapp has up on her website.

If you think that's bad, chew on this. The voodoo lady and Kate Krebbs have the same voice actress. Also, keep in mind that she's only the voodoo lady's voice in Tales. In Curse, Escape, and SoMI: Special Edition, she's voiced by someone else. She's the one all the way on the right.

The skill of voice actors to do multiple characters never ceases to amaze me, its quite a talent. Mark Hamill really sticks out in my mind as one of those, given how unrecognisable as Mark Hamill he is for, say the several characters he voices in Full Throttle, or his role as the Joker in the Batman animated series/Arkham Asylum game, though they're are plenty of other examples of similarly talented voice actors.

Coronado de Cava and Bugeye have the same voice actor as well if I remember rightly...

Speaking of the Voodoo Lady / Krebbs: I wonder if it's all down to different voice acting here or a question of pitching the voice down with the help of software..
  • edited November 2009
wow.. who would have thought that the one who voiced the voodoo Lady would be that attractive lol.
  • edited November 2009
What? You're saying the voodoo lady isn't attractive?

(Incidentally, she is one of my least favourite voices in the game; the voice doesn't seem a good fit to the character to me. Dominic Armato is great though, and so is Jared Emerson-Johnson as Marquis De Singe!)

It's amazing how much they all look exactly like their characters. Especially Dom/Guybrush and Alison/Voodoo Lady. :p

I believe you are referring to Kid Beyond (aka Andrew Chaykin, one of our most frequently used voice actors) kbportrait-small.jpg

I just saw one of his music performances a few weeks ago for the first time at W00tstock, and it's definitely something to check out.

For those not in the know, Jared also does all of the Sam & Max and Wallace & Gromit music, as well as a significant portion of the sound effects.
  • edited November 2009
Jared must be one of the most talented people I've ever... heard. On top of all those awesome tracks he's done, ALL the characters he dubs sound so different that it's like imposibble for one human being. He does all the C.O.P.S in Sam and Max (except Chippy I guess, but I would believe if he does THAT either), and DeSinge and one other character in MI Episode 1 I don't quite remember.

    triple threat.

That's actually how I kind of imagined a lot of them to look like (admittedly, I was familiar with a few of them before seeing this thread). Okay, so I'm surprised about the Voodoo Lady, but who isn't? :D Then again, I can still imagine that voice coming from her somehow.

Aside the Voodoo Lady, I can see visual resemblances between the characters and their voice actors. Weird how that works, eh?

we generally don't pitch/software enhance any of our characters -- and sometimes it's crazy to see character voices come out of the folks we cast. (voodoo lady, for one)
  • edited November 2009
Yeah..... Seeing Dominic talk in interviews is a trip... While I think he changes his voice a little bit for Guybrush its still very much his own voice.

and if you see an early photo of him, you'd think GB is actually based on him (from the MI1 sprite/artwork)

I'm constantly surprised by how different they can sound when doing different characters. Especially when I found out Jared was DeSinge. It sounds so different from Bluster Blaster and the C.O.P.S. from Sam & Max.

And Andrew Chaikin Beyond is amazing too with all those arms and voices like being Max in Culture Shock, and Phoney Bone in Bone, and I just watched the Chapter 4 end credits and it says he was D'Oro too? Wow.

Sorry, my mistake people, I choose that picture because she looked a little like the Pirate Hunter in the game, Morgan Le Flay.

    Thankyou for the correction.

Love the other pictures some have put up. :D

Oh, I almost forgot, here's one I took myself. Meet Edward Van Helgen and Charles DeGoulash:

    DSC02187.jpg

That's Michael Sorich. You may also know him as the voices of Don Copal and the tube system repairman from Grim Fandango. If you're an anime fan, you may know him as the voice of Don Kanonji from Bleach. He happened to be a guest at the anime convention here the same year I cosplayed Kanonji, so I managed to get a picture of him wearing the hat. Every time he walked past me in costume, he would shout "The spirits are always with you!" in the voice. It was amazing.

I know, I already posted this in the disturbing pictures thread, but I'm sure there's a few people here who avoid that thread (with good reason)...

Really cool! But I always wondered why Dominic does Guybrush voice only, he's incredibly talented. I remember hearing a demo tape that's on YouTube where he did all kinds of voice impersonations, and my personal favorite being the one of the gangster who talked really fast. I hope they use more of his voices in the future games.
  • edited November 2009
That's a good point! TTG should cast him for future roles. I'm sure Dominic wouldn't mind having something to do between Monkey Island games which only come around every decade or so.

hmm, i dont know if we've thought about that or not. his work load as guybrush alone is pretty intense. and considering he travels out from the east coast to do the recording here in the bay area, we try not to keep him for longer than we have to.

there's an episode of justice league where he talks to himself! As solomon grundy and the joker he holds an actual conversation, Mark Hamill is easily one of the best voice artists alive. Which is saying something!

    a) episodic schedules are magical things that bend the space/time continuum
    b) i didn't attach that statement to any period of time, past present or future -- just, when we DO fly him out, we try not to keep him from his wife and baby for too long (hence GB only)

That actually happens a lot in animation. In Futurama, Billy West voices three main characters (Fry, Farnsworth and Zoidberg), and two regulars (Zapp Brannigan and Richard Nixon). These characters have spoken to each other.

I'm not sure whether or not it happens in Monkey Island, apart from the Pyrite Parrot, which doesn't really count, but in the Sam & Max games, the COPS are all voiced by the same person, and so is the Two-Teeth family. Max and Jurgen are also voiced by the same person, and they've spoken to one another.

And in Homestar Runner, almost all the characters are voiced by one person, who sometimes do impressions of each other.

TV Tropes even has a page about it.
