Monkey Island 2 on the CryEngine

I didn't make this.

Pretty cool Monkey Island atmosphere going on there. Is this what the second season of TOMI will look like? ;) It is for a large part 2D artwork projected onto 3D objects.

It's awesome for a Monkey Island 2 game but well, ya know, I'm seeing it every where and it's just a new game engine that has good graphics, it's not really more than that. It's alot of work, and an impressive effort but it's like show boating technology and little else anymore, seen it too many times.

Given that it'd make a graphic FPS map but it's not really Monkey Island material, regardless it could be fun to walk around. I'm all for playing it, I've seen enough of the video.

Ah, I'm sorry, I misread the date of that video, I thought it was November instead of September. Didn't know it was old news.

Actually, the first time it came up, I remember there was a debate about whether the first Monkey Island was originally intended to be "realistic" or "cartoony" (since it's hard to judge by a few pixels), but I think in the end it was decided that the art direction had always been "cartoony" (though during development, the story-line was serious to begin with and became funny with time).

When I saw this a few months ago, I wasn't too excited about it because I agreed with those who thought Monkey Island should always be funny and cartoony. But now that I'm watching it again, I wonder if the engine could be used to turn out some cross between realistic and cartoon-like characters or places?

    Edit:

Interesting side-note: I've been on these forums for about 4 1/2 months and just realized that I've spelt my username wrong... It's supposed to be Thriftweed Fancy Pants! :o

I'm glad it's cartoony, I'm thankful for all the laughs it has given me.

Pretty sure it was comedy from the get-go - the Linguini Bros pretty close to the start of the first game?

Can't seem to figure out where I read it, but I remember one of the original developers talking about how in the process of making a serious pirate game, the dialogue became pretty humorous and there was eventually a consensus that it would become a comedy instead. Not too difficult to imagine when you've got writers like Tim Schafer working on the project. Anybody know where that bit of information can be found?

A scene being at the start of the game doesn't mean they made that first ;)
