The Threepwoods as Parents?

My recollection of my dream in the other thread got me thinking about what Elaine and Guybrush would be like as parents.

I imagine Guybrush as being a caring, but rather iresponsible parent, letting the kid get upto all kinds of mischief. Whereas Elaine would be stricter and definetely the one calling the shots.

But like I said earlier, if TT or Lucas ever went down this road, I think it would mark the final chapter in Monkey Island. Would be a pretty nice way to round it off if there was no more story to tell though.

Thoughts? Comments? Opinions? :D

Use...pliers...with...full diapers. --> That doesn't seem to work.

...and so doesn't the idea of the Threepwoods becoming parents. :D

But if I try to picture them as mom and dad I'd agree with what you wrote. Elaine would have to repeatedly tell Guybrush to "look after the baby" and he still would lose track of it.

    <Use Baby Wipe with Baby>

    "I don't wanna wipe that."

If a kid happens I would prefer the baby phase to be skipped entirely and just go from the walking-talking stage so he/she could be a useful character. Unless of course they want to make "throw baby" jokes.

Ok, that would be an option. Like in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull where Indy's son is already about 16 years old when he's introduced to the audience.

Still, I hardly see a chance for this to happen. After all, Guybrush would have to be the one who "takes care of the pregnancy" - Elaine's way too busy and emancipated for that. :D

Hey, you never know, unplanned things happen. Anyway, while I really, really doubt a kid would happen in-game, if it DID I'm sure it's easy to just skip the preggies stage by having the game take place some time later after the whole ordeal, even though I'm sure Elaine's mannerisms would have been funny to see.

I made a whole hypothetical kid with some friends seen here too, haha.

Children wouldn't work for oh so many reasons. But what they could do, is have some kind of a time-warp thing like in the Mysts o'Time on Lucre Island in MI4, except a warp that lasted the entire series. Here you could have an older Guybrush and Elaine (I believe TT actually did this briefly for S&M?) and also Guybrush's kid, whose only slightly younger than Guybrush: awkward!

That would be a vaguely interesting concept, and one that could be "undone" by the end of a season.

I agree with your view on their dynamics as parents, though. I can't see Guybrush being responsible, but also I reckon he'd definitely care for the little kid.

Ooh how about this one... They don't know it, but Morgan La Flay is Guybrush's daughter from an affair with... Winslow?! :p
Well Arnold Schwarzeneggar managed tohave a baby in that film thing...

This is totally what Guybrush would be like later in life

    monkeyisland6.png

His son is probably a ninja or something, and Elaine would go off to form her own elite pirate crew and grow some manly muscles.

Actually, Guybrush could probably pull the "old man" thing off pretty well..

That is one of the coolest fan arts I've ever seen, lol. I'd totally play it.

Doubt it would ever come into the canon series, but I bet it would make an awesome fan project. The idea of them being parents is really entertaining!

I could never imagine Guybrush and Elaine as parents... until I read these fanfics:

    The Second Element I
    The Second Element II
The Second Element III(this one was never finished, unfortunately)
by a very talented author called Tyraa Rane

I recommend that y'all read them (but take your time, they're loooooong), they're so awesome. They take place one year after the events of EMI (only thing I don't like about the stories, too many EMI references, but oh well...), and them being parents absolutely works! I guess it's because
they don't really get to do much parenting, because their daughter is separated from them, and both Guybrush and Elaine are turned into ghosts and don't age for like 17 years. So, they're still the same age as they were when they had her, while their daughter is already 17, when they're resurrected - very funny image
    . :D

So, I guess it would be possible to add a child to the whole story, if most of the early parenting years were skipped. ;)

In fact, Tyraa is rewriting it in her blog ^^

A child with parents like them would be funny ^-^

Hmm, I always thought that when the kid was little, inbetween useless baby and single-minded teen, Guybrush would probably get along with it really well, seeing as he's so much like a kid himself. xD Although I see Elaine getting along with them better once they reach the teen stage and get sick of their father. :D

Why should it mark the final chapter, there's whole possibility for making spin-off called "Monkey Island Jr." where Guybrush Jr. would beat the baddies, just like that Kevin did in the Home Alone movies.

Or they can pull a Shadow of the Colossus ending. If you guys know what I'm talkin' bout'. ;)

Well, remember what old Grandpa Marley said at the end of EMI? Something about wanting to see some great-grandchildren before he got any older ;)

I can totally see it happening. I mean, they've been married for some time now, right?

If you try to give the Ninja imitation figurine to someone in episode 1, Guybrush says something like "no way, I can pay for my kid's pirate school with this." So I guess he's put thought into these things.

And, according to Guybrush in Episode 1, they have a fairly lively sex life.

So here's a question. We know they had rubber trees in the Caribbean, so did they have rubbers?

This is a joke, PLEASE nobody go into the history of birth control in the 17th century...

Ooh, I missed that bit, now I gotta try it :)

And let's not forget what he says in Chapter 4, after putting that "weird, caustic fluid" in his pocket.

I think you have to show it to someone other than D'Oro though, but I don't remember. So if you don't get the line with D'Oro try Nipperkin or the glassblower dude.
  • edited November 2009
Yeah, if you use it with D'Oro, you just get a hint about it being more newsworthy if he were the one to find it.

Huh? What do small objects used to rub out pencil markings have to do with- *is hit with book of American slang* ... oh.

Don't worry, I've rarely heard them called "rubbers", the joke just seemed to work better than if I'd called them condoms.

And I've never heard pencil erasers called "rubbers", but I'm not surprised either.

Maybe because you live in America. Down here the term 'rubber' or 'rubbers' is more common (for both erasers and condoms).

I think it's more common it Britain too, but I'm only making an educated guess.

Or how about this? 150 years later, as a descendant of the Threepwoods is in the old west, LeChuck will return. Riding a ghost train. Our hero, let's call her Antimony, ends up stealing Murray from a museum to have him help her get rid of this Ghost Pirate Train Conductor LeChuck. o/

Okay, maybe that's a bit too far..

Ugh, I ignore this forum for a week and suddenly everyone starts posting good ideas.

Anyhoo, I've been in strange fevered states where I considered what an adventure game starring Guybrush Threepwood's child would be like. Most of my ideas were rubbish, except for one. I would have wanted it to be called "The Son of Monkey Island". A man can dream...
