So, is Guybrush going to keep...

...the hook hand?

I sure hope so but I doubt it.

I guess that the fifth chapter will have the quest of getting his hand back, aswell of the rest of his body :)

My initial thought when it got cut off was "Oh, they're gonna find some way to get that back at the end of the season, right? I mean, this Vaycaylian was just telling me how they can reattach limbs and such." But now, I've grown attached to it and hope Guybrush keeps it. It's awesome. :D

It's good for opening up locks at least :)

Keep it. And next season lose a lower leg or an eye.

You know, that Nintendo Power article that I've gone like...a whole week without mentioning said something about his hand.
"...and Guybrush's severed hand is dealt with."
I wouldn't say it's a confirmation one way or another, but...I know which way I'm leaning on it.

Hmm...looking at it again, there's another line in here that might be relevant in the wedding ring thread...

i would be mad if i were him if i lost it.
it gives him at least a little bit credibility as a pirate.

I dont mind it one way or another, The hook hand did come in.... Handy, no pun intended every now and then.

It does add to the gameplay, as there's quite a lot you can do with a hook hand!

If he kept it (for the sake of it being a typical pirate-y thing) but didn't make use of it in the puzzles, then I don't think that would work. They've made good use of it in TOMI, but if they hadn't it would just be a stereotypical pirate accessory. It's worked because the designers made it work, basically.

I'm sorta hoping he'll at least keep it in his inventory even if he gets his hand back though! I'm sure there's plenty you can do with an unattached hook too.

I think he will keep it in the inventory.

    The hand, I mean.

I think it looks awesome, but I doubt they'd make it a permanent thing.

By the way, the second option in the poll is wrong. "Nah, it'll come back with the (presumed?) resurrection" should read "Nah, his hand will come back with the (presumed?) resurrection". The way it's written now, "It" refers to the hook hand.

...point made. It was late when I posted. >_< don't think I can edit the poll.

But hey, people got the idea. I feel stupid now though, lol.

Ye.. Feels like a long lost friend.. :)

The hook is badass and I wouldn't mind Guybrush keeping it after this season is over, but I wouldn't have a problem with him getting his hand back either.
  • edited November 2009
Well, I don't think he can keep it.

    SPOILERS

The series seems to be coming full circle to end up exactly where it was before it started. That way Lucasarts can continue from EMI if they wanted. All new influential Chracters are gone and Lechuck has returned to his Undead form. So the hook will most likely be gone by the end of it.

Guybrush never had any credibility as a pirate. ;) The hook really came in handy, er, hooky at times. :D But I do think Guybrush will get his hand back somehow in the end. Maybe he'll find it in the
    Land of the Undead
, but well... I hope he'll keep it in his inventory in any case.

Is this factual information? If so, where did you hear it?

I said "seems to be". Its just my speculation. :) But I think its a realistic assumption to make.

Considering that they said that this was going to be a turning point in Guybrush's life, I really doubt that.
  • edited November 2009
Yeah I really don't like the idea that they would construct the ending in such a way so as Lucasarts can ignore this story entirely in case they want to make a game themselves. Kind of makes you expect the plot twists to be bland. :|

I hope not, it was really fun and great to have it for this game, but he doesnt need pirate accesories to look more "piraty"(?) the same way he doesnt need a good pirate name or a scary pirate look.

In fact he is just a great character because of lacking all those things.

    No.

Besides, if LucasArts wanted to make a new MI, why would they want to ignore TOMI? They approved the script and all themselves. It's not like they're all grumpy about it and would rather pretend that TOMI doesn't exist.

But ToMI is set a lot of time after EMI precisely to allow LucasArts to make any game they want after EMI, but before ToMI. So, the end of ToMI not neccesarily has to fix all the "odd" things introduced by the game (hook hand and such)
That way, LucasArts and Telltale can keep making Monkey Island games, in their respective temporal settings: LucasArts between EMI and ToMI, and Telltale from ToMI and beyond.

I love the hook and I think the Telltale guys know that it works as an addition to Guybrush so he will keep it.

    (Please).

Maybe the "turning point" in Guybrush's life is that he's now
    dead
    , however briefly :D
