Tales of Monkey Island E1 demo crashes
I am a fan of the series and I just downloaded the demo, installed it.
When I run the demo, it crashes. (monkeyisland101.exe)
I'm on a Win XP Pro SP3, P4 3.2 Ghz with 2 GB ram, ATI GFX card with Catalyst 8.1
Any help would be appreciated.

Even if you have some ancient ATI card (i.e. pre-Radeon 2xxx) you can get the Catalyst 9.11 legacy driver for it here.
np: Hudson Mohawke - Rising 5 (Butter)
I downloaded it from bigdownload.com
The file name is;
MonkeyIsland101_200907071448_bigdownload.exe
ATI RADEON X700 driver details;
Driver Packaging Version 8.162-050803a2-026336C-ATI
CATALYST™ Version 05.8
2D Driver Version 6.14.10.6561
Direct3D Version 6.14.10.0331
OpenGL Version 6.14.10.5279
CATALYST™ Control Center Version 1.2.2044.226
AIW/VIVO WDM Driver Version 6.14.10.6238
Yes it is set to 32-bit.
That's not ancient, that's older than the universe itself - do yourself a favour and upgrade to the *current* (as in "less than a month old") driver I linked to in my other post above...
np: Billy Bragg - Think Again (Live) (The Internationale)
It's not the old video driver.
I've updated and ToMI still crashes.
Any other suggestions?

You could give us the dxdiag output. Maybe we'll find something there.
dxdiag
Windows XP: Go to your start menu and click on run. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter
Windows Vista / 7: Press the windows key on your keyboard or click on the start menu. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.
Now click on the button that says "save all information".
It will prompt you to save a file. Save it where you can find it.
Then zip the file and attach it to a message.
Redownload and Reinstall the demo from TTG.
Try to install the latest Audio drivers.
If both fail, try a clean boot.
Booting clean in Windows XP:
To Boot Clean in Windows XP
1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG --> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
3. Uncheck Process SYSTEM.INI file
4. Uncheck Process WIN.INI file
5. Uncheck Load Startup Items
6. Click on the Services tab
7. At the bottom, check Hide All Microsoft Services
8. Uncheck all boxes in the window or click the button labeled Disable All
6. Click OK
7. Click Restart
8. After reboot, run the game to see if it works.
After performing the necessary steps, restore your system by doing the following:
1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG--> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
3. Click OK
4. Click YES, when asked to restart your computer
Based on Will's post
I had more trouble after updating and changing bootup settings. System did not boot up properly and I've lost my previous selective boot-up settings and I've been trying to recovered from it since yesterday.
I just finished tuning it up and I decided to skip this one for now.
Anyways thanks for your help.
