Jazz Jackrabbit 3; the game that never was...

edited December 2009 in General Chat
Just ran into this site yesterday : http://www.jazz2online.com/j3f/

What's your opinion on Jazz games?
It was one fine side-scrolling shooter, if you ask me. The 2nd part also had some great music while playing, and the graphics were very cheerful. Too bad they never managed to finish that 3rd part... Would have been something like Mario 64, a real gem if you ask me :).

I very much enjoyed the second one. The first was in Dos and therefore beneath me, but the second one was a blast. I liked to play as Spaz - his double-jump came in wicked handy.

There's a (very) incomplete leak of Jazz3D floating around teh intarwebs, if you're curious. Shouldn't be too hard to track down. I did a while back and I'm not really convinced the gameplay translated into 'all 3 of the glorious Ds!' particularly well. Still, it wasn't done, so I guess we'll never really know.

Best to leave my memories of Jazz in a 2D state, I think.

Gosh, what great games. I really have to dig them up now.

I was a bit disappointed to find out it was going to be in 3D. I have nothing against 3D animation, but I'm not too keen on 3D platformers for some reason. Even so, it would have been cool to see the series resurrected. I loved Jazz 1 & 2 though, good times. :)

Jazz ruled. One of my favorites of the day, taking all that made such games good on consoles and making it awesome for PC. Never managed to play the first the whole way through though, but Jazz 2 is certainly one of the best designed platform games ever made. But that's not surprising when you consider its the work of Cliff Bleszinski. Then there's the brilliant soundtrack to it too.

Hey, the laboratory level was my fav. music as well. I have it on my mobile phone as a ring-tone :). However, Castle, Diamondus and City were also very good tracks. :)

Anybody remember the Xmas Edition of Jazz 1?

Xmas Editions were a weird (and short-lived) trend, incidentally.

Yeah, if I recall well, there were only 4 levels of Holiday Hare, and I definitely remember the rock version of Jingle Bells pretty well :)

Haha, I never knew there was a xmas edition of Jazz Jackrabbit! I do remember the days of xmas editions though. I did have the xmas edition of the Amiga game "Fire and Ice" though. It was just a one stage demo though, with the sprites edited to look Christmassy!

How about "Holiday Lemmings"? A couple of those were made, and they were decent games. :D

Which one? Jazz Jackrabbit 1 & 2 can be found on abandonware sites (though they aren't really abandonware), while Jazz 3D was never finished or officially realeased. A leaked version is floating around, but you'll have to try The Pirate Bay or something similar to find that.

...and you didn't hear that from me. Right?

Jazz 3D would've been outdated anyway, but a re-envisioned Jazz Jackrabbit game would be nice. I feel like Epic could pull it off too, rather than just trying to be second-best to other games they borrowed ideas from.
