Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

edited December 2009 in General Chat
Okay, I'm the first to admit that I don't play survival horror. I'm too big a chicken, but I did kind of enjoy watching my brother play Resident Evil 4 from behind my blanket. Silent Hill is a series I've always been interested in, and the "running away" game play seems like it's more fun in practice than it sounds in theory. And the questionnaire gimmick seems like it actually is used by the game. Any thoughts, forum folks?

    I have lots of thoughts!

    ...

Just none on your topic... Was that helpful?

Not really, you didn't say what you're thoughts were. Do you like "Yankee Doodle Dandy" or not? Are lollipops tastier than pillowy mints? Betty or Veronica? Don't leave me hanging, Tpravetz!

I'm a die-hard Silent Hill fan, but I don't own a Wii, so I've got my fingers crossed for a port. My friend has it and says it's amazing. From what I've seen, I'd have to agree. The "running" part seems pretty intense. I don't know if I like the frozen tundra otherworld, but at least it's trying something new. Rusty metal gets pretty stale after awhile.

    Yes. Yes. Thelma.

And remember to never use your clothes with the blender.

ShaggE, isn't it also coming out for PS2 and PSP? That's what I read at Giant Bomb anyway. And if you recommend it, I guess that means it's pretty good, since you are the frightening films fanatic. :p

Oh yes, I'm so getting this when it comes out on PS2. Scheduled for February, I believe. I've always loved playing these games for their adventure game qualities. The combat was a necessary evil.

'Tis? That makes me joyful and cheery. :D It'd be a lot cheaper to get a PS2 than a Wii, and I've been wanting a PS2 anyway for God of War and MGS 3.

    Woo! I has a valued opinion! :p

I'm also semi-interested in picking this up. I might do so if it ever comes down to £20. What do you make of the motion controls? Are they waggle-centric? I despise that kind of control with a passion.

I can't wait for it to be released in Europe! ...I've played every single SH title! One of my favorite games...
Silent Hill is to Survival Horror what Monkey Island is to Adventure Games! I simply love it.

I haven't tried out any of the Silent Hill series yet, but I've been wanting to. My only problem is I have a ton of Resident Evil games I never finished. It sounds funny, but I can't seem to get through any of the parts with the undead dogs, they scare the hell out of me. There's one where you run through the kennels at the very beginning and I managed to do so... then the game froze and I had to restart. I couldn't get myself to run through there again. I didn't see any dog-like critters in Silent Hill so maybe that would be a better fit.

I did enjoy Dino Crisis and Parasite Eve II which are somewhat in the same genre. My only beef with the genre as a whole is even after getting used to the controls for them I still don't like them. There seems to be some requirement for the movement controls to be a chore.

There's the Groaner, the Double Head, The Sniffer Dog, and the Feral. All dog enemies. I think only Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill Origins are dog-less.

You should at least play Silent Hill 2, though. I'm almost positive that it's dog-less (haven't played in awhile), and it's a self-contained story, so you won't be lost. It also happens to be the best in the series.
