Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines: Excessive Colons

edited December 2009 in General Chat
This game is my new obsession. It's a shame that it took so many patches to make it playable, because it really is one of the best ARPGs I've ever played.

Any other fans here? I'm still early on my first playthrough (Malkavian character), currently doing the opening Downtown quest.

    What's an ARPG?

Action RPG. Think Mass Effect, Diablo, or Deus Ex. (although V:M:B plays much differently to all of those)

Don't all of those play differently from all of those? Anyway, is Vampire: The Masquerade a book series? It sounds faintly familiar.

Aye, they do, but I mean that the game just operates under a unique ruleset. It's difficult to explain, really.

The franchise started as a pen and paper RPG, and like most, spawned a few books. Perhaps you partook in one of those incarnations?

I'm waiting to see if it goes on sale during Steam's holiday thing. I've had my eye on it for a while.

Anyone remember the short lived TV show Kindred: The Embraced? It was pretty much Vampire : The Masquerade : The TV Series. It didn't last long, because it was pretty crap. Best part of it was Brian Thompson.

Good game, I'm in the middle of playing it! Wish it wasn't so glitchy. I'm currently doing the Hollywood missions.

Have you patched up to 6.6? That'll eliminate just about every glitch.

I too loved this game. Troika was working with an early build of the source engine which caused many of their headaches. The game pretty much went head to head with HL2 which was really bad. It was sad to see this company go under since I wanted to buy more stuff from them. White wolf wouldn't have allowed another VTM game anyway since they were just about to push their "new world of darkness" upon the masses. Good music, interesting dialogue and roleplaying, they did what they could with character building (there were additional character building elements and clans that were cut), sub par fps elements/combat, bunch of bugs but a great atmosphere.

That would actually be a good episode of House.

    "Doctor...this patient has multiple colons!"

Its one of my favorite games too... A little dated but so good.

I did patch it all the way up with the unofficial patches, however it still (surprisingly) will crash unexpectedly, or my character will get stuck, or the sound/video will seem out of sync in movies. With all of the bug fixes they've done, I can't imagine how bad the game was originally! Still fun and worth the effort to play, though, for the story and humor alone.
