The way I see it, the remake of SMI was a move toward Wii owners.

Uh...what? SoMI: Special Edition was only released on PC and the Xbox Live Arcade.

    The Fate of Monkey Island

I would die laughing if they made this considering the Fate of Monkey Island was one of the last MI fan-projects that got C+D'd by LucasArts. :D It was up to like #5 though so they had a good run at it.

    Monkey Island: The Skeletal Horde

Now that LeChuck's gone, maybe his skeleton army can be the main antagonists. Why not? Hey, it could be a three game series, maybe:

Monkey Island: Rise of the Skeletal Horde
Monkey Island: Rule of the Skeletal Horde
Monkey Island: Fall of the Skeletal Horde

Or maybe it could just be a three episode season (but each episode twice as long as the Tales episodes, and 3 month gaps in between episodes).

    Hey, nice!

Oh, I agree with you on that point. I absolutely think that re-using "Tales" and adding a subtitle would be a horrible route to go for this series. It's worked for other things, but Monkey Island already has an established paradigm for its game titles and changing that would just feel awkward.
    You mean like:

    Monkey Island: LeChuck's Revenge

    ???

    Hey, nice!

    thankyou

    Crossovers are never epic.

Ash from Evil Dead joining the Power Rangers would be epic.

    You mean like:

    Monkey Island: LeChuck's Revenge

    ???

Okay, that one doesn't count. Everyone knows that the second game in a series is allowed to break the title paradigm. Like Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, when every other game in the series is The Legend of Zelda: [Insert Title Here]. So we can have Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge and still have every other game named "(The) ____ of Monkey Island".

...What are you looking at me like that for? No, I'm not making this up as I go along!
  • edited January 2010
What's important though, since Monkey Island 2 is the only NUMBERED Monkey Island game. Of course, you should perhaps count SOMI as well, since it's the first and the first games are never really given a number as it's supposedly obvious. So we can pretend CMI isn't actually MI3, as that would most likely be called Monkey Island 3: something something of something secret. Why? Because that's how most games were named back then. They usually didn't solely rely on subtitles those days. Castlevania II, III, Super Castlevania IV. Zelda is an exception... apart from Zelda II. But that game was also drastically different, so I guess they decided on going back to the original name and just add a subtitle. Had Zelda II been more accepted and better recieved, maybe they had become Zelda III, IV, V, VI, VII, just like the Final Fantasy series.

Every new Monkey Island adventure had its own name.
Of course Monkey Island appeared in all of them, but I'd rather have a new name than 'ToMI II' :-)
Keeps up the expectations and doesn't look like MI is a mass production ^^

MI2 didn't have a number either. You must have looked too much at that comparison site between retail and demo ;).

Actually, you are dead wrong on that one. It did have a number. Unless you've never had an actual original copy of the game and only used illegal downloads?

You guys are weird, creating some paradigm on how the games should and should not be titled according to their sequence. I say, really, let them sort it out, nobody will change LA's titles now on, they are classics. And as per TTG, if they really plan to stick with "Tales of Monkey Island: bla-bla-bla", then maybe it's even better. Because instead of releasing separate sequences, they would actually point out at the fact that it's all part of their single creation.

That is, only if the DVD gets released under "TMI: the Pox of LeChuck" title. Otherwise I'd opt for "Return to..." =)

    He's right, you know.

The big "2" in the monkey's hand is probably the most prominent thing on the cover.

Yeah, just saw it on Wikipedia (before flipping the page). I never saw the boxart, just ingame, and that didn't have a 2 anywhere.

I am pretty sure I didn't game yet when MI2 was released... too young.
If I was already talking, I doubt it was any english :p.

I was only joking about the "second game gets to break the paradigm" thing. Imagine my surprise when I get on today and see that I sparked a debate.

Monkey Fantasy (like Final Fantasy) and turn the game into an RPG. I bet alot of people will love that. Go around as Guybrush build up stats, have Elaine, Meathook and Carla join your party and Eventually fight Lechuck and his undead legion.

I don't think that would work for the Monkey Island franchise... no more than an FPS where you destroy ghost pirates with root beer and zombie pirates with voodoo cutlasses.

I think he was just kidding.
Of course you can't turn MI into an RPG.
That would be hellishly funny to see thou: a FFXII mod to replace all chars with those of MI =)
...and have them have moves like "Insult", "Face off", "Drink grog" and "Pox swear".
  • edited February 2010
    -Guybrush used PK Insult Ω!
    -Enemy Grog-Swillin Pirate became dazed
    -Guybrush attacks!
    -SMAAAASH!
    -Guybrush wins!

Anybody remember that one? It seems buggy but still fun. :) I can get up to Rottingham...he gets me every time...:(

Oh, jeez, it was a reference to Curse, people!
    Guybrush: Please don't kill me.
    LeChuck: Why shouldn't I?
Guybrush: If you kill me, there'll be no more Monkey Island sequels. No sequels means no work for you. You'll become just another has-been that nobody's heard of.
LeChuck: That could never happen to ME! I'm LeChuck!
Guybrush: Do you know the name 'Bobbin Threadbare'?
    LeChuck: No.
    Guybrush: Exactly.

    On a side note...
If you kill me, there'll be no more Monkey Island sequels.

He must be proven wrong! He must!
