Go buy Psychonauts. $2 on steam.

edited February 2010 in General Chat
If you don't know about Psychonauts, or never got a chance to play it, it's $2 right now.

Go get it. It's awesome.

Even Yahtzee liked it.

I'm guessing everyone else on the forums already owns it, but I bought a second copy so now I have it on PC also.

So go get it! Deal ends thursday! (friday in Aus)

The original price of 10 bucks was pretty good too.

I got it as a gift just last Christmas.

I've never heard of it. What makes it so good?

It's by Tim Schafer, one of the original creators of Monkey Island.

It's a really good game with fantastic humour, especially the later levels.

    It's funnier than Monkey Island.

If you haven't heard of it, go get it now. It has a metacritic score of 87, so it's been pretty well received.

If it's as ship-shape as the PS2 version (which I bought way back when) then I highly recommend it.

No, actually, I not only HIGHLY recommend purchasing it, but I also HIGHLY recommend buying multiple copies then shipping them off to your friends. Then influence them to buy multiple copies and send it off to their friends. Then, when they finally get to the end of the friend chain, have them buy multiple copies and send them to Doublefine employees...

...at least that's what I plan on doing.
  • edited January 2010
Yeah, I recommend friend gifting it too.

It's a platformer. But it's not like mario, and it's as funny as Monkey Island. If not funnier.

I do love funny . . . All right. You guys convinced me.

Kay, I got it on Steam. It's like . . . 3% downloaded. This could take all night. :(
  • edited January 2010
Yeah, the servers are really busy for psychonauts. It's the second biggest seller on steam, other people (myself included) have purchased it.

    If you need more convincing...

May? Do you read aloud whilst typing? I can just imagine that now...

Anyway, i picked it up, but as with the majority of my steam sale collection, won't be touching for a while. I'm like a magpie!

I bought it this morning, can't go wrong for a quid. Not tried it yet though, probably won't try it for a while either. Got alot of games to play already.

True, but you need a subscription for that. Plus this way, you actually own it.
  • edited January 2010
Yeah, it's a $2 payment now and then you own it for life.

However, the GameArena servers here in Australia are swamped. Mine refuses to download...

Well, at least as long as Steam doesn't crumble.

I highly doubt that. They're making a fortune.

You don't need a subscription to play Psychonauts on Gametap. It's been one of the free games for quite some time.

Good thing I haven't tried yet then.

I already owned it in boxed form, but I decided to pick it up again because I got sick of installing from 9000 CDs.

And you can also boast about buying multiple copies just to 'support the game' :).

Who knows, our multiple purchases might be enough to encourage Double Fine to make a sequel.

Hmm. Well, the special is still going...

Free seems, well, cheaper. So I'm taking a look at GameTap.

EDIT: AAAAAND it says I have to have a Premium membership to actually play it.

    Duh. Nothing is free.

PALEMAN WAS ONCE AGAIN INCREDIBLY WRONG!

Buy it off Steam now.... now..... NOW! Before it's too late!

$2 really is incredible value! I mean, just think about what 2 bucks will buy you in this day and age. A drink, a 1950's jazz CD, a cheap mug, a packet of chips, a bag of toy soldiers - nothing brilliant.

...What kind of 1950's Jazz CD are we talking about?

    :p

That's unfortunate, it was in their free games pack for like 2 years, but I admittedly haven't used Gametap since they made the switch to being browser based.

Same here. They really screwed up with that. I have a feeling they *still* haven't fixed the plethora of download issues. :(

Hahaha, I totally bought it yesterday... Which is funny, because I first saw it on Xbox and bought it immediately, it was so charming.
    Then I never played it.
...Not for lack of desire, just hassle. Now I have it on Steam and... I never have TIME to play games anymore, so I'm wondering if it has the same fate.

    Nooooo! That's awful!

Hopefully now that it's on your computer, which doesn't require disc swapping and is used a lot more than consoles, you might find 20min or so to play it a bit.

It's a really good game. It rivals Sam and Max in terms of humour.

Started playing it a little while ago, planning to give it a little go. Two hours later and I've just managed to drag myself away from it, could have kept on playing it all night it's so damned good. Why did I wait this long to play a game this good?
  • edited January 2010
I was playing today, and I had honestly forgotten how incredibly awesome it was. It's just so polished, and exploring the camp is so much fun. Way better than the open world mess of Brutal Legend, but it is kind of hard to compare the two.

I really hope they do a Psychonauts 2.

    Psychonaut? $2? Psychonaut 2 confirmed!

    Yes.

    Insecticide Part 1 (action/adventure)
Big Brain Wolf (which I hear is good - haven't played it yet)
    The LucasArts adventure pack
    Jack Keane
Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition (though I'm sure you've played that, yes?)

There's more, but I can't think of them right now.
