This should be Telltale's next IP

edited February 2010 in General Chat
2D Goggles. Now I'm sure there will be people who say, "But that IP isn't as well known as Telltale, so how much of a pre-existing fanbase can they have?" or "There's ... barely an IP with that IP. It's just some random cartoons based off of the idea of Ada Lovelace and Charles Babbage fighting crime without specifying how or why or having any actual plots and blah blah blah blah ...", but to those people I say, "Yes, but it's awesome! I win."

Also, I'm utterly in love with all the characters and want to see them animated desperately. This concept just needs to be turned into an adventure game and/or animated series right away, and I think Telltale is (are?) the one(s) to do it! And yes, it might appear selfish to have Telltale make a game just because it would make me happy, but I'm hoping that being a bunch of computer geeks (game company) who enjoy manic, nonsensical humor (S&M) and Adventure! (ToMI) they will fall in love with this quasi-comic and do something against their better judgment (ordering dinner from Burger King).

    I respect your opinions, Lena_P, but I have to disagree here.

    Dr. McNinja has a good deal more fans, and what it lacks in a slight hit to the awesome-ness of concept, it gains in sheer polish and an amazing ability to consistently one-up itself.

    Yes, but how many footnotes does Dr. McNinja have? And do they primarily use primary sources, because that's a make or break deal for me.

    Well, no. But Dr. McNinja probably knows what he's talking about, because he has a doctorate in just about everything. In fact, I think that makes him eligible to be a primary source on just about anything. And that, I assume, includes vampires on the moon and bandits riding raptors.

    I love 2D goggles.

    Personally, my favorite webcomic of all time is Nedroid. I would buy five million copies of a Sam & Max-styled adventure game with the two (three?) main characters. But maybe it's just meant to work well only as a comic, who knows.

    I also have other favorites too, but a list of everything would be pretty long. Dr. McNinja would be included. I also love everything by KC Green. Never read 2D Googles, but I'll check it out now!

    Next IP based off a webcomic? Hmmm...

    Starslip Crisis?

    Ooh! So he's Professor Irwin Corey?

    Mua-haha! My corruption has begun to spread!

    Now for some Charles Babbage Fun Facts:

    He designed a carriage for traveling around the Continent that he could sleep in comfortably, had a lamp for boiling tea and eggs (not at the same time ... I think) and had space for storing clothes and microscopes and notebooks and stuff. Essentially, he invented the Airstream Trailer.

    He had a silver, mechanical woman that he bought third hand and then fixed up himself.

    He fought crime! He helped Isambard Kingdom Brunel and another engineer whose name I forget to come up with ways of preventing forgery of bank notes.

    I like this.

    I don't like the 2D Goggles design where the comics themselves are burred in text. Present the comic without the visual distractions. Not to say there shouldn't be text associated, but right now it's more like someone linking to someone else's comic in their blog, rather than actually creating it.

    Though I feel that arguing for a redesign like that is like arguing an RSS feed for Girls with Slingshots.

    I bet you could. It would just take a lot of single malt.

    Another one of my favorites. :3

    I'm interested to know which other ones everyone reads; maybe I can finally find some fans for some of the more obscure webcomics.
  • edited January 2010
    I'm afraid the webcomics I mostly read aren't really obscure... The Order of the Stick, The Gods of Arr-Kelaan (I suggest you start reading here, Goblins... They're all D&D inspired, by the way. And I'm not even a gamer.

    Oh, and Hitmen for Destiny, too. This one isn't a roleplaying comic. It's absurd and weird and hilarious in my opinion, although I found it a bit slow to start.

    Then there are those I read from time to time when I think about it, catch up on the archives and stuff, when I remember they exist. Which I don't right now, so no links, sorry.

    Well, here's my list of web comics (and might as well count as) in Alphabetical order:

    * 2D Goggles
    * Diesel Sweeties
    * The FAIL Blog
    * Indexed
    * Liz Prince Power
    * MY MILK TOOG - Warning: Cute overload!
    * The Oatmeal
    * Penny Arcade
    * Real Life Comics
    * Sinfest

    * Something Positive
    * Weeble and Bob
    * xkcd.com

    For Girls With Slingshots, I have to wait for Daniel Costello to update her Twitter. :/

    Considering your high modship, I was expecting you to edit everyone's posts to agree with you. But you're not that evil, are you?
  • edited January 2010
    Are you talking about me or Seg? Because I totally am that evil! But I'm a subtler evil ... the kind that sneaks up on you, and you don't even know it's evil until it's too late and then BAM! Italics everywhere! I mean, evil!
    ...
    Okay, so I'm really more annoying than anything, but that's evil, too, if you think about it.

    Anyhoo, some webcomics I read:
    Big Named Ones Already Named
    Nodwick et al (though it's been awhile since I checked it out)
    Sheldon (Talking duck! Named Arthur! Who's an egotist!)
    Multiplex (and I'm not even a movies kind of person!)
    Unshelved (The current strip is about a book about poop. Maybe not the best day to link it ...)

    There are others, but I think five from me is enough for one week.

    Oh, and Devil's Panties because she's a Tammy Pierce fan.

    Wow, nobody here reads PVP? I do.

    Besides already mentioning Nedroid, Dr. McNinja, and Girls With Slingshots, I read a lot of them. At the top of my head, here are a few (the ones not linked to are because they are adult, some of them not SO MUCH, but still have adult themes so search at own risk):

    Gunnerkrigg Court
    Scary Go Round
    Anders Loves Maria
    Wondermark
    Gastrophobia
    Girly
    Lackadaisy (updates at a glacial pace, but when it does, JESUS THAT ART WOW)
    Raymondo Person
    Fanboys
    The Perry Bible Fellowship
    Gunshow
    Lucid TV
    MSPaint Adventures (might not count, but I check it as regularly and get into the plot as I do a webcomic)
    Boxer Hockey
    lol-comics
    Hiimdaisy's comics
    Achewood
    Sam and Fuzzy
    Tiny Kitten Teeth

    Funny thing is, just because you're marked as a TTG employee doesn't mean you have mod access.

    It's better that way. Otherwise I'd be mad with power...

    XKCD is about the only webcomic I read actively. I make sure it's the first thing I see every M/W/F.

    It makes him a mocker.
    (Sorry, been practising my writing all day. Feeling snarky. That may just be only the third or fouth halfway usable joke I've come up with in five hours of writing. I'd like to kill whoever said good writing was easy.)

    Man, Telltale totally discriminates against normal people. There's just no other way to explain the fact that everyone who works there is friggin' awesome. You don't gather up that many cool people in one place by chance.

    When Telltale needed to make a game for cool and attractive people, you need cool and attractive people.

    It's really weird that not only do I work for a video game developer/publisher, but also a comic book publisher at the same time. Course, it's only one comic, but it's an Eisner nominated comic!

    Dude, quit hogging all the good jobs! That's probably why they won't let you have mod-powers; you've got a high enough cool factor as it is!

    ...

    So ... you gonna tell us the name of the comic, maybe?
