Telltale's Future Games Revealed in Survey

So, Telltale is trying to pick the newsletter subscriber's brains for things like slogans in the newsletter survey. But they have also revealed something interesting: what they are considering for their next IP.

They asked what would be most interesting to us as their next IP. While the choices they provided are likely things that are only considerations, and not anything that they have even tried to get the rights for yet, it is interesting to see what they're looking at. Even if they're just looking at the general style wanted by their subscribers rather than these actual series, it's worth thinking about.

The provided options are the Sierra Quest series, Gabriel Knight, More LucasArts, Leisure Suit Larry, Myst, Infocom, and Broken Sword. I of course chose Infocom(Zork, Planetfall), Gabriel Knight, and Sierra Quest series.

Oh, by the way, interesting to note: Since the last poll I entered in, those creating the polls seem to have noticed the existence of Loom.

I picked Infocom, more Lucasarts and Gabriel Knight. I bought the King's Quest Collection off Steam a while back, and it took my rose-tinted glasses and stomped on them. (except KQVI, which actually was as good as I remember)

I spent about 5 minutes thinking of my three favourite films :(

And I picked Broken Sword, Gabriel Knight and Lucasarts. In the Lucasartsa specific question I picked Grim Fandango even though i'm not sure if I really would like a sequel

Oh good Lord, make it Broken Sword.

Oh good Lord, make it Broken Sword.

Broken Sword would work so well with the episodic episodes, there could be a really great cliffhanger every month!!

I was excited beyond reason to see that option.

What, no Futurama? No Doctor Who?

...have we not been getting through to these people?

I'm not convinced that "What IP shall we seek the licence for?" is the same as "We'll seek the licence for this IP if enough people want it". It's possible, nay, probable, that Telltale will be using these as examples to try and find out the kind of games and gameplay that people are interested in.

Huh? You could pick 3? I thought just the one (so chose for more LA).

For the LA sequel I picked Day of the Tentacle.
They seem to have forgotten Maniac Mansion and DotT are from the exact same series, offering them up as 2 seperate options...

I brought up Futurama during Telltale Heart #1 and they were like, Huh? Futurama? What's that?

    :(

I thought it was weird how they seemingly described the new S&M game as if it was more like an action oriented series.

I've yet to finish playing the CSI games so i'll have to hold my judgement on Telltale's ability to craft non comedy titles heh...

Another lucasarts game would be neat, I personally think Zak Mackracken would really suit the sort of vibe of telltale's previous titles you know? Then again, i'll never say I wouldn't be excited by another Loom game. I LOVE LOOM, but i'm likely to be overly and needlessly critical considering my adoration for that bloody title.

Ooo, another maniac mansion unrelated to the edisons and maybe following sandy and dave could be interesting? What ever happened to the other kids?

I think I picked Lucasarts, Broken sword and um... I forget the third lol. *fail*

I kinda wished the Legend of Kyrandia was on that list, even though I knew it was a one in a billion long shot.

Wonder what I should do with my 15% coupon and my free episode. I have all the games and the MI poster...

(Side Note: Honestly, Telltale would have to get an IP that sounded really stupid for me not to buy it. There's just not any real adventure game competition right now.)

For someone who likes to sit around and complain so much, you sure as hell picked some bad choices. I wasn't fond of any of the games listed, but at least I didn't pick Sierra Quest.

Edit: I don't mean to sound like an ass. It's just ironic.

I picked Sierra Quest, more Lucasarts, and Broken Sword. Infocom would be good too, but I don't think they'd fit with Telltale's style (tex would work best).

I finally managed to FIND the survey. I chose Sierra Quest, Broken Sword, more Lucasarts, and under LA IPs, Maniac Mansion, DOTT, Zak McKraken, LOOM, and Full throttle, but with greater uh, implied emphasis on Maniac Mansion/DOTT.

Keep in mind that we might also be looking for links between the type of gamer you are, the games you enjoy most and what you think about Season 3. There are links between them!

Hopefully many people think like me and we get a TTG Black Metal Day of the Tentacle sequel/Political Thriller with Role-Playing elements... :D

Just admit it's so you can put subliminal messages in the games to drive us into a consumer frenzy. Then on to phase 2, adding fluoride to the DVD's... ohhoho, when I break this story you guys are going down

As I consider Pez to be a Class A Addictive Substance, I will push the marketing initiative to include a number of them in every retail DVD.

Niko i think it's great you guys want to revive the old franchises. But to be honest i believe you guys have the talent to build your own franchise. I don't get why you guys don't build up to that. Right now i believe TOMI propelled your status as a high quality and well known gaming company. I myself am an example and would do well for you guys to start defining yourselves with your own franchises.

The storyline you guys build in TOMI imo was good i believe you guys can make a brainstorming session or open the doors for a game proposal. I dare you guys to do it, because i know you guys are capable. BTW i would buy some of those games you guys surveyed, but still i think you got a lot of flexibility to expand if theres the budget.

Hey Everlast, thanks for the feedback!

It's something we really want to try, and are looking into, but there's a lot more to it than just the superficial "Hey we should do this!" Our team is comprised of wonderful talent and much ambition, so we'll jump that hurdle as we come to it. Cross your fingers for the future, though!

People were lying to you. We are WELL aware of Futurama. Of course that doesn't affect anything related to licensing, but I assure you it is know.

Thank GOD. You sir, just ended a five hour long heart attack that started when I posted about it and ended when you replied.

    TIME FOR RIDICULOUS ASSUMPTIONS!

What I infer by your post AND SUGGEST EVERYONE INFER AS WELL JUST BECAUSE I WANT HILARIOUS HIJINKS TO ENSUE is that what you're saying is you didn't even have to think to license these classic adventure titles as new IPs. Also that word "all" in there. All implying a big amount, which reminds me of that book Rama by Arthur C Clarke which was about a big spaceship. All could also imply all or life, which implies something about the future. Wait. Future? Rama? Futurama!

Futurama confirmed everybody! Time to celebrate! And even if by some SLIM chance I've pulled this out of my rear, you guys have to pull through now or else we'll all become very very sad and disappointed forever.

Oooh, so are you going to stick our survey answers into a giant computer that tells you about our secret innermost being? Will you send me my results? I want to see what Mike thinks of me after analyzing my love of William Daniels, Harvest Moon and Pete Seeger.

Somehow I doubt they're going to make a game based on my favorite TV programmes.

    Use "Boy scout" on "Stig".

    Oh dear.

    Restore, Restart, or Quit?

    Use "Clarkson" on "caravan kitchen"

    Oh dear

    Restore, Restart, or Quit?

    Use "piano" on "Morris Marina"

    Oh dear

    Restore, Restart, or Quit?

    Use "Corvette" on "Fiesta"

    Oh dear

    Restore, Restart or Quit?

Use "vampire car" on "Richard Hammond".

Err, yeah, on second thought perhaps its not in good taste to mock that one.

Lol, top gear the game would be chaotic... but all kinds of awesome.

And much as I love Zork, I dunno... I sort of feel like it did all it could do. Hell, Zork nemesis has nothing much to do with the rest of the series in any way but name. Still have to play Grand Inquisitor... and get Nemesis running on my pc properly (it crashes much like 7th guest does.. 11th hour doesn't even run!)

Anyone know any emulator or fix to get around this on XP?

    DosBox.

I made a guide to running Discworld 2 using DosBox, which is here. I'll try installing and running 7th Guest using a variation of this, and then let you know how I get on.

EDIT: Bah! Can't even install the thing. No MSXsomething. Pain the the rear end. Anyway, sorry, but I can't help you there.

I chose Sierra Quests (Space Quest is the best). More Lucas Arts and Infocom. For more Lucas Arts I chose Full Throttle.

Wait, you could choose more than one? I went for Broken sword. I loved the first two, and feel they need a proper 3D adventure.

    2. Broken Sword.

Discworld 2 is a Windows 95 game. I managed to get it working with a Virtual Machine install of Win98 (yes, I still have my Win98 CD somewhere).

No such luck with 3D games like Discworld Noir though, VMWare didn't quite support those DirectX features. (This was a few years ago, mind you).

You can now play Discworld 1 & 2 through ScummVM. Makes it a hell of a lot easier to play them.
