Black screen on Wallace and Gromit's Grand Adventures

edited February 2010 in Game Support
Help! When I try to play some of the games in the wallace and gromit package I get a black screen with no picture, only text and sound. I have a windows vista computer which is Direct X compatible and have had no problems with any of your other games. I have tried turning off all other non- windows programmes and fiddling around with the graphics settings but nothing seems to work. Please advise.

Try updating your Graphics driver and DirectX.

If that doesn't help, please give us a dxdiag log.

    dxdiag
Windows XP: Go to your start menu and click on run. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter
Windows Vista / 7: Press the windows key on your keyboard or click on the start menu. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.

Now click on the button that says "save all information".
It will prompt you to save a file. Save it where you can find it.

Then zip the file and attach it to a message.

There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with Direct X here is the dxdiag log.

    Card name: ATI Radeon X1250
    Driver Date/Size: 7/27/2007 21:14:30, 2999296 bytes

Description: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
    Date and Size: 1/30/2008 10:34:20, 2058528 bytes

Your drivers are really old. The graphics driver could cause your problem.
What is your exact Notebook Model?
The dxdiag says "Toshiba Satellite L300D", but there are a lot of different submodels. You should find the Model Part Number on a sticker like this one on your notebook.

Sadly you have the latest graphics driver Toshiba lists for your model.

Notebook manufacturers rarely keep drivers up to date and often even prevent the use of the hardware manufacturers reference drivers. Therefore I only have an experimental solution for you.
I found a slightly newer driver (04/22/2008) from a different Toshiba model that should work according to the data in the .inf File.
You can download the graphics driver here.

I found a more recent driver:
    Pick the 06-24-2009 version.
