[Edit:] and Anakin and Padme didn't spend enough time together in Attack of the Clones for her to fall in love with him, plus Anakin's character is too young in Phantom Menace to "care for" a young woman like her.
Honestly, I don't think he's too young to have feelings for her, it's not uncommon to have crushes even at that age. But I have a hard time understanding how she could have that kind of feelings for him.
I totally see how they wanted Anakin to be a young prodigy and stuff but I don't see why he couldn't be like 14-15 and Padme would have been 19-20 or something. Then in attack of the clones when they're both older and meet again it would make much more sense for them to start a relationship, I feel. I don't know, it just feels like them meeting for the first time when he's still a little boy but she's already a young person is just putting the emphasis on the gap between them, while if they were both a bit younger or a bit older it would seem more realistic to me, as they would be both in the same "class" of either children, teenagers or adults.
But more than the actual ages, I think the problem is the movies didn't make me believe it. Not in any of the episodes. I never thought "awww" about these two, ever. Even Luke and Leia feel like a more believable couple!
I just had a pipe leak above my bedroom, putting water over my stereo, five newly bought CD's, the carpet and a book! I probably could have prevented my stuff getting wet, but I was unaware of the dripping... and now I'm angry.
