Civ V announced

edited September 2010 in General Chat
I know I just mentioned it in the Good News thread, but there's a lot of information that at least some people here would like to know. Also, I'm insanely excited about it. :D :D :D :D :D

Civ V has been announced, set for a 2010 release. The new game is set to include:

-Hexagonal Tiles!
-Leaders speaking their native languages, not Simmish!
-Expanded diplomacy that takes place in full screen!
-City-states!
-18 Civs to choose from
-Ranged bombardment
-Modding tools
-Access to Civ community from the game menu itself

This is a really major release for PC gamers, or at least PC gamers that enjoy games that involve slower-paced thinking titles, a sphere that includes a lot of adventure gamers.

I've 'wasted' many hours in the Civ games, so really looking forward to this. Think I might fire up Civ 4 again in celebration.

    Ditto.

The only Civ I played is FreeCiv on Linux. I'm so bad in that game I play always with 1 civilization: Mine.

    Hexagonal tiles, eh?

That's going to be hard to get used to.

Irony: the civilization series will one day become so popular and addictive that it will cause the end of civilization as we know it.

I made almost this same post, I only worded it different, on the Real Life Comics forums

This is very good news. It's going to be hard to top Civ IV, especially with the BTS-expansion, but the changes mentioned looks pretty promising.

    Has anyone bought it yet?

    Is Civ 4 good?

I'll probably try the demo, but does anyone really need 120 achievements?

According to the majority of game reviewers, YES! Also, the game and all the expansion packs are $10 cheaper then buying Civ 5 alone. If you're looking for a cheap Civ game though, The Complete Civ 3 is $5.

Another one eh...I own the first one some where around here.

I'm really tempted to buy Civ 5, but right now I'm wondering if it's worth the €50 on Steam, or if I should wait until the price gets lowered. Also I'm curious about the multi-player, what's the length and size of the multi-player games? I haven't played Civ since Civ 3 and it's been years.

Anyone got any thoughts about Civ 5?

I Haven't touched the multiplayer in Civ IV, and don't own Civ V yet (why should I, i still play IV! Although that demo was pretty awesome...), but from what i've heard it's pretty good. Everyone takes simultaneous turns, and if someone drops out, you can vote whether to wait, carry on later, or keep going without them.

I assume Civ V keeps those features at least.

    My two cents:
If you want to buy Civ 5, don't. At least until Firaxis/Take2/Steam fixes the game AI. And MP is still broken.
If you're winning a war, the AI offers peace in exchange for all its cities (except the capital), gold and resources and the naval combat AI is still a joke.

The game also has a lot of bugs, nothing game braking, but enough bugs to make me wish I hadn't pre-order it.

If you're tempted, try the demo.

Ah, and avoid Direct2Drive since the only thing they give you is a steam code for civ 5.
