ReReleasing other LA Games

edited March 2010 in General Chat
Admins and Mods, I'm not sure this is in the right place or not. I don't mind if it gets moved.
I had a couple of questions.
One, are you going to rerelease (or do a new game) based on Grim Fandango and Full Throttle?
Two, is there going to be a 5-disc set based on all the MI games?

Thanks for all your help.

Nothing's announced, and such big news(even if it WAS planned) would be announced in a press release or a front-page announcement/blog post, rather than as an answer to a forum question.

Also, I'd really doubt all of the above, at least from Telltale. Telltale doesn't do the remakes, for one, that's LucasArts. Also, Telltale's current project is Sam and Max Season Three, with possibly another series somewhere in early pre-production. Everything from Telltale interviews seems to indicate that the next item on their list is some form of contemporary, currently widely-significant franchise that isn't humorous, though this is just conjecture(and these plans could be dropped if a great opportunity hits them, like they dropped Season Three of Sam and Max to develop Tales).

Also, there are a few issues with a "box set" idea. For one, most of the sales for Tales have already been made, and Telltale is self-publishing the game. Another issue is that LucasArts seems to prefer the business model of releasing their classics through digital distribution channels, a physical box copy would be a bit more of a risk for them. Also, they're likely doing a special edition of LeChuck's Revenge, so I wouldn't bet to see the original version of that to sell by itself anywhere anytime soon.

Even thought there a 5 MI games now, if LucasArts* ever did a compendium (and their licence agreement with Telltale allowed it) I think they'd all squeeze on one or two DVD roms.

    * LucasArts would be the ones to make a compendium, not Telltale, should it ever happen.

If there were a 5-game compilation, I'm reasonably certain they could fit it onto one Dual-Layer DVD. Unless they team up with Telltale and include all the games AND the inevitable DVD-ROM features, in which case it'd need to be two DVDs.

But it won't happen. At least, not legally. Being the proud legal owner of all the MI games that I am, I managed to snag a custom-made DVD that included all the games from the series. But that was from a naughty site, so I couldn't possibly comment further.

Apparrently in issue 70 of Retro Gamer, Lucasarts were worried about the front cover of the mag being the cover art of MI2, stating "we haven't release Monkey Island 2 yet." That should be an indication of another special edition. What's more, they apparently said they will have a big announcment for fans of the series in March. Well, its March now, so we could have more rereleases on the way sooner than we think.

PS. Can someone with a copy of the retro gamer magazine tell me if I am correct? I just heard this in a thread about issue 70.

Thanks, rats, and darn. I don't think Lucas Arts realizes what a money spinner that would be, both the MI compendum and the rerelease/new story of FT and GF.:rolleyes:

I was literally reading that issue just yesterday. Let me check for you.

    EDIT: Yep!
[...]we're confident that the story hasn't finished yet. Monkey Island 2 Special Edition is inevitable and we're told by our friends at LucasArts that next March might be a special month for fans.

Oh, I really hope it's announced there, that would very nearly be the pinnacle my week.

Imagine Monkey Island 2 with the Telltale engine. That would be a nice surprise.
