TOMI 2 - script error

edited April 2010 in Game Support
I just finished TOMI1, and went to install chapters 2 through 5.

Then when I tried running TOMI2 for the first time, I get this script error:
An error has occurred in the script on this page
line: 6
char: 37667
Error: invalid argument
Code: 0
URL: file:///C:/users/ilan/AppData/Local/Temp/SOME_ID/launcher/include/lib.js

I cannot run the game, unlock with my code, or do anything else except for closing the launcher window.
A screenshot of this is attached.

Help?

Apparently I get the same exact error as this guy: http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15139

IE is fully updated, I have no firewall / virus scanner.
This is a clean and updated Windows 7 Enterprise (everything is legit)
Narwhal works, but Spinner Cay doesn't.

Could you try clearing out your temporary internet files, uninstalling the game, and then redownloading it from scratch?

    Hi Will, thanks for answering.
    I deleted all IE cache.
Then uninstalled "Spinner Cay" (and chose to delete the saved games just in case, as there are none)
Then I deleted all IE cache again (just in case)
Then I downloaded the episode again, and installed it
I chose to check and update DirectX again (just in case)

But the same exact error persists.

    Any further help?

Hmm, I hate script errors. Ok, just in case let's try a clean boot of your system. These are vista steps, but I just checked and they appear to be the same on Win7.

To Boot Clean in Windows Vista

    1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG --> Click OK
    2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
    3. Uncheck Load Startup Items
    4. Select the Services tab
    5. Check Hide all Microsoft services
    6. Click Disable all
    7. Click on OK
    8. Click Restart.
    9. After reboot, run game to see if it works.

After performing the necessary steps, restore your system by doing the following:

    1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG--> Click OK
    2. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
    3. Click Ok
    4. Click Yes, when asked to restart your computer

If that doesn't work, we can check your MD5 hash. I'm just going to post this info here now so I don't have to track it down again later:

    File: ToMI_SiegeOfSpinnerCay_Setup.exe
    CRC-32: c2991f20
    MD4: 2ca3fe2006e170691ab77c17c5131f35
    MD5: ad3f461222ae16278a92e823b77ce6b9
    SHA-1: 7622f4292c1a31f5b37b34028c7bebd451430d4f

    Hi Will,

I did as you said with MSConfig (apparently it's exactly the same with Windows 7), then restarted, logged in and clicked the Spinner Cay icon.
And again, I got the exact same error (I verified that it's the same error parameters)
So I restarted as normal with MSConfig again.

Then I used this thingy: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=B3C93558-31B7-47E2-A663-7365C1686C08&displaylang=en
to compute MD5 and SHA1 hash, and I get:
    C:\download>fciv -both ToMI_SiegeOfSpinnerCay_Setup.exe
    //
// File Checksum Integrity Verifier version 2.05.
    //
                    MD5 SHA-1
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
    ad3f461222ae16278a92e823b77ce6b9 7622f4292c1a31f5b37b34028c7bebd451430d4f tomi_siegeofspinnercay_setup.exe

Which seems similar to the hashes you gave.

Thank you very much for all the help so far, but I think I'm still in need of help :/

Curses! Ok, do you have java SDK installed? How about any sort of really strict virus protection or firewalls? Do you have scripts disable in IE?

    Hi Will,
I did another search in the forum, and found this: http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11458 and this: http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12492

My laptop has a wireless network on/off switch, so I tried what was suggested, and played with it a bit.
What worked for me is this:
    1. Turn wireless network off
    2. Launch Spinner Cay
    3. As soon as the launcher window starts to appear, turn the wireless network back on.
    4. This time the launcher loads OK, so choose to enter unlock code
    5. Unlock the game
    6. Close the launcher window

From now it, it just works, without disabling the network.

If I keep the network disabled, or enable it too late after the launcher finished loading, then the unlocking does not work with a CONNECT_ERROR.

By the way, this same procedure worked for all episodes 2 through 5.

So thank you very much Will, I think this is actually a real bug in the launcher, but it does not happen for me anymore so I'm happy :)

No I'm off to play :D

Baffling. Well I guess I'm glad it worked, even if it was somewhat wonky. Cheers!
