    LeChuck got his grove back!

So does LeChuck, and he really comes out the sexier of the two in the Special Edition treatment. The New Guybrush isn't exactly offensive, but the new LeChuck is just...well, see for yourselves.

Oh yeah, I should have explained that a lot better. Or, you know, at all. Completely my bad. Basically, I just hope I like the voice acting. Chances aren't bad, but for a couple characters they're iffy, is all. :)
Wow  Does he do the same lurching walk he did in the original?

This has exceeded my expectations and considering I believe MI2:LCR to be the greatest game of all time, that is saying something.

Personally I also really like the box art but then I was never a big fan of the original.
They've also added never-before-seen art from Peter Chan and Steve Purcell

    +
I also think we owe the fans a bit of closure around the "secret" and hope that we have the opportunity to reveal it in a perhaps unexpected way soon

    =

    Alternate ending?!?!

    (I realise I have added 2 and 2 and made 5 here)

Or maybe the commentary will be interrupted by Guybrush, who then kills the creators in a bloodthirsty rampage!

Then, the camera fades and it says 'These tapes were found buried on Monkey Island.'

Also, good decision by LucasArts to sell the SEs through the Telltale store, considering this has become the unofficial forum for them.

J: Compared to Purcell's one the cover art looks awful.
I: The ingame gfx look better than those from TSOMISE, including guy.brush's haircut!
P: A few scenes and especially some characters/objects look too flat, with soso style/colours and kind of rushed.
    I: I love the music.
I: I hope that this time you also can combine new sfx/talkie with the old gfx.
E: Looking forward to it, this time with joy.

Oh this game's going to scare me all over again :D

I really can't wait to see the dream sequence in this, it'll be awesome

    Confirmed.

I'm really impressed with this! As much as I loved having a remake to the original MI, the characters looked a little.. off. This is much more like it! The style is beautiful and seems to stick so much better to the originals. More than I could have ever hoped for.

Also, it's great that we can play with the classic graphics and have the voices on :)

Someone who went to the event tweeted: "SoMI coming to telltale site, psn, home MI avaters and a pirate ship space for home".
    Take that as you will.

That's great news :D Though will Telltale get LeChuck's Revenge at the same time as Steam? I guess we'll find out soon enough

    ..
If it's going to be over 2gb like last time, I'd better "borrow" my mam's computer to download it. It took my computer all day to get Secret  plus my download cap is 2gb

    @Giant Tope
    Hah, awesome, thanks!

Btw the sound playing on the LucasArts site (Woodtick) is my favourite one in Monkey Island. The snoring is wonderful *rrrhhhh*.

Another one: Will it be with point&click on computers?
  • edited March 2010
They've added animation! Look at Guybrush's walkcycle.
  • edited March 2010
Absolutely brilliant, loving it in every way. The new LeChuck looks fearsome, and he still stumbles around like the beautiful undead corpse he is.

Isn't that variation of the Woodtick theme the one you hear in the Bloody Lip when your talking to the bartender?

Does anybody know if they are going to keep the option to choose the difficulty?

Here's a few comparison shots they put up:

For sure it's a variation but i can't remember if it's from the bartender or one of the others ships.

I think it looks fantastic, everything is very detailed and beautiful. I'm assuming these aren't finished screencaps - sometimes Guybrush appears to have less facial hair than others!

The new design makes the shovel a lot more obvious.

    They're probably thinking more joypad.

I dunno if anyone mentioned it already but it looks like it will be hitting Playstation as well.

    Rather Dashing Presents:

WHY THE COVER ART FOR MONKEY ISLAND 2: SPECIAL EDITION SUCKS

OK, at first when I read your 'rant' I didn't agree, thought it was over the top, and then I compared the two while reading and I think you're actually spot on. There's nothing wrong with the new cover until you look at the old one.

So I'm not gonna look at the old one.

I'm so excited, the game looks fantastic and if it's as least as good as the first SE I'll have hours of enjoyment from it... and then there's the added bonus of commentaries!

That's funny, my solution is to not look at the new one :p

    here you go

I love the way LeChuck moves, and it looks great, but something bothers me.

In the original game he was very thin and spindly looking - like a corpse. I know they are trying to stick with the theme of a big, broad shoulders LeChuck that has been in every game now (except the orginal 2 - there was bloated fat LeChuck ghost, and thin zombie LeChuck), but I loved the thin, spindly, "my body has been decomposing and has lost most of it's muscle mass" LeChuck. It made that walk of his all the more creepy.
Just my two-cents. Still very happy though.

I didn't really react badly to the new "fake cover" artwork. Of course, that's partly because I've enjoyed the "So Bad, They're Good" fake covers for Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10. However, those are deliberate parodies of old-school game cover art and not reinterpretations of classic boxart. Honestly, if MI2SE were a boxed release, I'd be annoyed. Since it's not, I don't really care. I agree with most of Rather Dashing's complaints, though. Considering the original boxarts for the first two MI games were nowhere near indicative of the art in the games proper, changing the covers into an art style equivalent to the new versions doesn't really make much sense.

I already bought SMISE via Direct2Drive, but if both Special Editions are coming to the Telltale Store, I think I'll buy MI2SE here. The commentary tracks will be great, but I really have to wonder if there will be snarking towards the PotC movies (especially in the swamp).

This is excellent news. Hopefully if this goes well, they'll do more special editions or maybe *gasp* a new adventure game!

But that may be way too optimistic.
