Telltale Games, hire Al Lowe!

edited April 2010 in General Chat
So, there are already three threads that ended up with people screaming about this, so I think it should have it's own thread.

Telltale Games, you should try to hire Al Lowe.
Even if you won't (can't) work on the Leisure Suit Larry property, Al Lowe would be a valuable asset to the company.
He's a really funny creative guy. Think about the design idea's he had for Leisure Suit Larry 7 (giving the player a part in the game, the cybersniff2000, the easter eggs.)

He's proven to be quite the story teller, not only focusing on adult humor. This is made clear by games as Torin's Passage and Freddy Pharkas.
He has also proven that he can work on acquired property's, seeing as he made a game out of Disney's The Black Cauldron, Winnie the Pooh ánd Donald Duck.

The fact that he's been cheated out of his own property's for a couple of times is also a big factor.
I feel bad for the guy, he should be rehired by a company that respects people for what they're good at, and strive to create products that aren't solely based on money, but on making a good product that pleases the fanbase. Telltale is the best, and possibly only, company that springs to mind.

So, in short, Telltale Games, hire Al Lowe!

Oh yeah, and I forgot this, Al Lowe can even do music!
He did most of the music for Leisure Suit Larry and Freddy Pharkas, and since Telltale broke Jared Emerson Johnson (quote needed), Al could fill in with some pretty great jazzy tunes too!

Yeah I think he used to be a music teacher.

    I agree! Hire the man!

So, does anyone know where Al is located?
Do you think he would move if he cóuld get a job at Telltale?

I haven't even heard of the guy nor have I played Leisure Suit Larry, but after reading this for some reason I too really want Telltale to hire him.

The music is one of the best things about Larry. He's excellent at jazzy soundtracks.

He created some adventure games in the 90s that blended comedy and adventure games... if you dig the stuff TTG are doing and the Monkey Island series you may really like his games Leisure Suit Larry and Freddy Pharkas ... Fans of Curse of Monkey Island will particularly enjoy the art and animation of Leisure suit Larry 7... but those games are not for youngins as it is very adult orientated and contains nudity. LSL games 8 and 9 are not made by Al, Larry Laffer is not even the main character in those.... Although I enjoyed 8 it is not the same type of games in the series... 9 however is completely broken and Larry has become unrecognizable...

here are the first 5 games XP playable (Al skipped game 4) unfortunatly this set doesnt include LsL 7 the best in the series.

here is 7 the best one... and I have played them all... all versions too remakes and originals

and Freddy Pharkas.... similar to larry but less adult humor... still some of it though.

Horrible games. There is a lot more fun in this song than in everything he ever did: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2vE5b_FgEA&feature=related

I guess I'll have to add the Leisure Suit Larry games to my ever-growing 'to play' list.

I don't if I should take this seriously, call it spam or if it's just totally random...

Here is an interview with him from 2002... its actually pretty interesting hearing him talk about the gaming industry back then.

By the way I just sent an email to Al Lowe ... nearly begging him to apply at Telltale.

You should've put a link to this thread in the mail. So he could see how we love him and want him at Telltale! :)

    He responded back already..... :(

So he is happily retired and plans to stay that way.

But... But... But... Think of the fans... The people who miss you... The chance to get back at all those assholes who killed your franchises and kicked you out in the street with your face in the dirt! We want more Al! Like in old days!

I'm not surprised and if Al is enjoying retirement then I'm glad. I mostly wanted him to come back if he missed the days of game design, but if he doesn't, let him stay retired, and just wish him the best.
  • edited April 2010
    Yeah, maybe you're right.
But don't think I'm gonna let this rest if Telltale decides to make a Leisure Suit Larry game!
I'll fly over there, kick the kitty of his lap, pull him out of that lawn chair and drag him to Telltale's doorstep myself!

If they ever did get the opportunity for LsL they better consult Al... I know one thing for sure a Larry game made by Telltale might be too much for doodo to handle.
  • edited April 2010
    doodo?

He is a user here... he often suggests that TTG add things like nudity in the games.
  • edited April 2010
    I wholeheartedly support this!
I think... a Larry game might be one of the few things that could tempt Al Lowe out of retirement.
Aside from the money aspect, I think his emotional ties to the series are strong, and he's not alone.

Im one of the biggest fans of Al Lowe, he's a very nice guy and did great job in Larry games. Imagine Telltale hiring both Al Lowe and Ron Gilbert, it would be the best thing ever
  • edited April 2010
That's a strange combination, but I'd love to see a game done by both.
I wonder if they'd get along...
