Anyone else disspointed that the W&G and TMI bonus discs aren't like S&M S1&2?

edited March 2010 in General Chat
Probably my favorite part about the bonus discs that came at the end of seasons 1 and 2 of Sam and Max was the fact that I could pop it into my DVD player and watch the cutscene reels while I was doing some homework or cleaning up around the house etc. I was quite dissapointed that when I got my Wallace and Gromit disc, it didn't have the same feature. I also have read that the Tales of Monkey Island disc will also not be able to be played in a DVD player like the first 2 seasons of Sam and Max. If this isn't true please tell me, I'd love to be wrong.

Am I the only one a bit dissapointed by this?

I am getting the W&G DVD completely free... I had codes from different sources contests buying other things.... other contests...

I used the codes on all four episodes and then I got free shipping for ordering the DVD with other stuff.. so its all free...

    It's true.

I don't really mind having it play as a DVD if it still features as many bonusses, like comentaries and stuff, unlike W&G.
So yeah, it's a little too early to say wheter or not I will be dissapointed.

I usually watch DVDs on my computer so it doesn't make much of a difference to me.
I can understand why you'd be disappointed, though.

The Wallace and Gromit DVD has a large number of other, far more prominent issues, but I suppose that is one of the many reasons I'm extremely disappointed with the thing.

    No.

I use my Computer as my DVD(and Blu-Ray) player anyway, so it's no huge loss for me.

Yes, having a "Highlight Reel" for the ToMI DVD is a lame excuse for anything. Also, how does your computer play Blu-Rays?

After quietly following this thread for a couple weeks, I have to agree with Rather Dashing. I'm hoping everything that went wrong with the W&G disc won't be repeated in the future.
Also, how does your computer play Blu-Rays?

... It has a Blu-ray drive? There are quite a few PC models you can buy with one now.

I had one put in when i ordered it. For an extra £12, they basically doubled my specs, and added a BD drive (bluray-disc), because i had to wait an additional two weeks for the laptop.

As it stands now, I regret buying Wallace & Gromit and am almost ashamed to have it sitting on my shelf of games as the DVD is useless. Sure, I get the Wallace & Gromit short-movies yet the entire W&G DVD is made up of items we could have downloaded ourselves! In fact, that's exactly what I'll do. For your viewing pleasure, here's the W&G DVD in its entirety.

    - First, if you have the digital versions of W&G, go to your Games page up the top and download all the W&G episodes.
    - Youtube/Google Video "Wallace & Gromit Cracking Contraptions". Watch all 10 of them.
    - Go here: http://www.telltalegames.com/videos/ and download/watch practically all the trailers advertising all of Telltale's games.
    - Go here: http://vip.telltalegames.com/ and scroll down to Wallace & Gromit and download some concept art.
    - Go here: http://www.videogamer.com/videos/wallace_and_gromits_grand_adventures_fright_of_the_bumblebees_making_of_feature.html# to download the 'Behind the Scenes'.

Vwolla! I r maek teh DVD!

I really was looking forward to watch the Cracking Contraptions short on my TV, but I can't because all the Videos are just .wmv files and those can't be played by my DvD-Player. I don't even know if there is any Player that can play those. Maybe a more open Format would have been better, but then maybe i just dislike wmv-files for some reason ;-)

They can't do a half-assed job with ToMI's DVD. Dave Grossman worked as a designer on SMI and MI2 back in the day, and now on ToMI. He has to know that it will piss off a lot of people.

At first, I didn't care much about the issue of online activation on a disc version, since I was sure there would be a patch to break it if TTG ever closed. But since I read Klink's post that you can find everything from the game on the net already, and Mirko's post that the clips on the disc are just .wmv's... Well, I have to say that it's changed my mind about it all. This is terrible.

Dave wouldn't do the same thing to MI fans. He's been around since the beginning, so he has to know how much it means to us to have it done right.

...perhaps, if we made a big enough stink, they might improve the W&G disc? I know I wouldn't buy it after reading Klink's post unless it had stuff that wasn't so obviously easily burnable on my own.

Well, the ToMI-DVD won't be playable in a regular DVD player either, that's already been confirmed by Will.

In other words: TTG needs to get someone (else) to produce their DVDs. Since Jake, Emily and Doug have all moved on (to other positions or jobs), obviously there's no one left to keep the super-high standard the S&M-DVDs set, which is a shame, since the DVDs were the icing on the cake that was the Telltale-awesomeness.

Don't get me wrong, the games are still fantastic (and S&M3 looks to be as well), but what set TTG apart from other companies was the care that went into the releases. Well, the ToMI-DVD won't be the useless coaster the W&G-DVD became, and after all they put out a lot of MI-merch, so maybe Telltale "so" hiring right now is an indication that they are in fact trying to stock up on people who WILL eventually help them return to their (not so) old glory.

As noted on these forums, the Wallace & Gromit disc wasn't a big Telltale high point.

Most here should be familiar with the content lined up for the MI DVD http://www.telltalegames.com/company/pressreleases/id-105, with the team commentaries/highlight reel as a key piece for the disc. That's been amongst the most popular faves for other Telltale DVDs.

During Sam & Max Season One and Season Two, we were essentially a single game company. We're looking to hit the best mix for the season end DVDs as we continue to expand with more game releases and more content. These DVDs are of course >free< add ons for season customers (for just the cost of shipping).

Many of you know that folks at Telltale keep tuned into the fourms, and we appreciate the feedback that comes in here.

I am just speculating here - but I suspect that W&G was in no way near as big a seller as ToMI, and possibly not even as popular as S&M. Maybe that's because Wallace & Gromit isn't as popular in the US as it is in the UK/Australia.

So perhaps with the huge positive reaction to Monkey Island, and the relative unpopularity of W&G, and everything else TTG was doing at the time, that they didn't have the time or incentive to put extra effort into making the W&G DVD super fantastic. People were still pushing for the DVD to be released (after all, it'd had been a few months since the season had finished) so they did the best they could with the time and manpower available.

We shouldn't fear about ToMI - it has been their most popular and successful series to date, and with the huge amount of wonderful things TTG has done for Monkey Island fans, we should have faith that the DVD will be awesome. Maybe the reason it won't work in a normal DVD-video player is because it's already mixed media having the PC and Mac versions on it.

    That would be it.
