I've always been very surprised by the "evolution vs religion" thing there seems to be in the US, like they're contradictory or something.

Their not. It's scientists vs. preachers, not science vs. The Bible.

Also, The Book of Genesis in the Bible has two creation stories in it. Adam & Eve is a seperate story from "on the sixth day, God created man" (which is also metaphorical, imo.) Actually, I heard someone say once that the original literal translation of the word "day" from that passage is actually closer to meaning "time period."

...and anyway, doesn't it sound metaphorical anyway? I mean, they "ate the fruit" that grows from the "tree" which itself grows from the "knowledge of good and evil."

I'm not meaning to step on anyone's toes here. I'm just pointing out that the Bible doesn't directly contradict science. For example, some philosphers of the past have said that the reason why Earth has tsunamis is because the Earth rests on the back of a catfish and when it goes underwater...

The Bible doesn't say silly stuff like that.

...Don't open Pandora's Box here. I'd rather not crack open my King James Bible and start pulling passages.

    =p

Hey, I didn't say they didn't have weird stupid laws way back when, that were harsh and lame and completely missed the point. But that's a different subject.

Besides that, the King James Version has been proven to not be a very close translation to the original meanings of words. People just like it alot because it sounds poetic.

I'm sure, whatever your preferred version, I could dig up a dozen related things.

    whatever you say.

But... maybe we shoudl change the subject before we get the thread locked.

Agreed. I honestly do not want to go down that road in a public space.

Speaking of Going Down and Chick tracts, the most recent Chick tract is called "Going Down", but I'll save you the trouble: it's not as interesting as it sounds at all.

I don't get the whole "off-topic" thing. What's wrong with not talking about what you set out to talk about? It seems so unnatural to expect that every discussion will adhere to the thread's title.

If you're talking to someone in real life about, say, global warming, and the conversation turns into one about cars, would you say "okay, this sounds like it could be a really interesting discussion but come on now, let's be sensible. We were talking about global warming"? No you wouldn't, because that's not how discussions work.

That being said, if you don't want to get into a religious debate then that's fair enough. I just think it's unreasonable to expect that we stay on-topic all the time. Doing so could even prevent friendships from forming. Do you want that? IS THAT WHAT YOU PEOPLE WANT? IS IT?! ANSWER ME!!! AAAAAARRRGH!!!

I love discussing about religion, but this isn't really the place for it.

I don't think the current problem is drifting off-topic. Simply that religion can be a very personal and emotional thing to talk about, and it can easily turn into something nasty and get the thread locked.

So I think Dashing and Chyron would rather avoid talking about it altogether out of respect for the board or something along those lines.

If anyone wants to make a "religion" thread, sure, but I'll probably just end up trying to ignore it because I don't want to make anyone actually HATE me. I already have a reputation as the forum dickhead, apparently. And yeah, those "discussions" can get nasty fast.

You're not a dickhead (well I don't think you are, at least not most of the time :p). You just tend to have very definite opinions and share them freely, which is surely what a lively forum is all about.

That said, staying away from politics and religion is probably a good idea. Those subjects do tend to become inflammatory very quickly.

That and you're also wrong every time you say something that I disagree with. :D

    Just kidding.

I always worry that it's going to turn out to be something retarded, so I almost feel better not knowing.

I overheard him talking about his secret last week. I was just minding my own business in a bush in his back garden while he was cooking for a friend, and he said "the secret is the extra cinnamon". Make of that what you will.

I don't care if it's stupid. I think "Oh, that was dumb" is a lot better than the mystery just sort of hanging there. If it's dumb, no skin off my back. Who cares, we had nothing before and it was agitating. If it's NOT dumb, then we've gained something.

Unless you had a map tattooed on it and were caught sleeping in the sun next to a bottle of cooking oil.

I had a dream about Potter puppet pals last night, except they weren't Harry Potter puppets they were characters from Monkey Island. It was a really good dream but I'm not sure it would work in real life...

In fact, it's my personal opinion that nobody in the world has ever really been evil. Well, maybe one or two people, but you can count them off as anomolies.

    Nor is there anyone holy.

I have been preaching this my entire life (it is also the basis of my gimmick)... finally somebody who agrees.
