XIII is so awesome... so is VII and FFCC:MLAADL and KHI and KH2...

Chrono Trigger cool too, but it isn't really an FF game.

FFXIII is half good half bad. A shame that it takes 20 hours + to get to the good part, and even then you still do the same that you've done since you started the game. Fight fight fight. First through corridors, with plenty of cutscenes between them to tell a story, back and forth between characters. And when you get to Gran Pulse, you can do hunts, like in FFXII. I don't think there's much more to this game than fighting. Yeah, the fighting is good and probably among the best in a Final Fantasy game, but there's not much else to the game than that, with a story to keep you moving forward.

Anyway, when I first got Final Fantasy VII (my first jrpg ever), I was awestruck and so happy that I've found another genre besides graphic adventures that I could get deeply involved with. It felt like a natural "next-step" for me. Final Fantasy were adventure games at its core, but the puzzles were replaced in favor of action and turn based rpg gameplay.

I haven't actually gotten up to Gran Pulse yet, I've been too busy making machinimas...

But even at where I'm up to I perfer it over VII...

I donno... maybe it's because the first time I played VII was only early this year, the graphics might be too dated for me to really get into the game.

FFXII's "Crystarium" was a linear sphere grid. Why was it even there in the first place considering how linear it is.

But as far as FF games go, I'd have to go with either IX or VI as my favourites.

I'll agree with VI. I think Kefka makes a marvelous villain and a great final boss. IX's villains are quite interesting but the game's final boss...not so much.

I kinda liked the crystarium, but you do have a point. Linear isn't that bad me thinks... :D
