The Whispered World Released

edited May 2010 in General Chat
The Whispered World is now available on Steam.

It is a hand drawn and animated 2D point and click adventure game. It looks really good so far though I haven't gotten far in the game yet. It is definitely worth checking out. There is a game demo here.

If you've already tried it, what did you think? It's great to see more good adventure games coming out and I hope this one does well.

Some people in these forums, specifically the German population, have already played through and finished it and given their input on the game. I'm glad to see it out, but I can't really afford another game right now, so I'll have to wait a bit on it.

it's great, a nice good oldschool-adventure with great voice acting (i'm talking about the german version), fair puzzles, in interesting story, a great protagonist (he's always so sad..uuuh... poor guy) and really nice graphics (painted background, no 3D).

i've not completed it yet, but i will... someday

Looks nice (well, the walking animations looked a little off, but the rest looked nice), but i can't really afford it right now.

I've so far only played the demo but, while I still think the game is beautiful and the plot is intriguing (and the puzzles have exactly the right level of complexity for me, but I'm a bit thick) it does suffer in one area where most games translated from German to English do tend to fail; script and voice acting.

Saying that 1 or 2 of the jokes did make me smile and even chuckle, which is a rarity in situations like this.

I definitely will still play this game, though; script and voices aside the story is intriguing (even more intriguing than I thought it was from the write ups I read prior to playing the demo), the puzzles are (thus far) good and I don't think anybody could possibly overstate the beauty of the game.

If an AG is measured simply on those 5 points (art, puzzles, plot, acting and script) then it gets 3 out of 5 outstanding merits on that alone. (And maybe 0.5 for the script; a great script can be ruined by a poor choice of actors or director, so, if approached from another angle, it could have been another outstanding point I miss out on :( )

I just played through this game and I'd suggest giving the full version a try sometime if you liked it at all. I too found the voice acting a little off at first but the more I played the game, the better it seemed to get - Sadwick in particular. It took me a little while to get used to his voice but by the end of it the voice was actually incredibly endearing and I couldn't imagine the character any different. I'm not sure which part of the game the demo covers, but there's a lot of voice acting in the full game that is really well done.

...except that one Asgil. His voice got really old. You'll know him when you see him.

Sadwick annoyed me at first but I'm starting to warm up to the little fella.
Great game so far, I'd definetly recommend it.

    Finished it right now.

Awesome game. Absolute recomendation to all "old-school" adventure gamers.

Well, the sadwick voice in the german version was also sth. not everyone liked. there was a lot of discussion before and right after the release. but once people played the game for a longer period, most thought the voice fitted the character perfectly. so this MAY be intentional for the english version as well.

also, the game has its funny moments, but it isn't supposed to be an all-out comedy, even though it might look like one.

It's a fantastic game in my opinion, with minor flaws in puzzle design (in just a couple of puzzles, overall the puzzles are good and logical).
