I started reading Discworld 3 years ago, and I have around 15 books.
First contact with the series was with the Discworld adventure game which I haven't been able to complete so far
I really love the books, but what I love the most about them is the philosophical and scientific content.
My favorite books are therefore the "Science of Discworld" books, and I'm in the middle of part II right now.
I'm still not sure about this entire production. While the set- and costume-design of these movies can look great at times (considering that they're not quite big-budget, and not counting stuff like that horrible librarian costume in Colour of Magic), they often don't have a lot going for them. The acting and directing (and in Rincewind's and - especially - Twoflowers' case, the casting) all seem a bit sub-par. Still, both movies so far have had their good bits. I'm keeping an open mind about this one. At least Angua looks stunning (in her human-form, I mean).
Sorry for the doublepost, but it aired! Anyone here who managed to catch it?
While it still had some of the problems of the previous adaptions, I thought it was much, much better. Where the previous movies tended to feel more like amateur stage plays, this actually felt like someone wanted to make a real movie. Vetinari was perfect, just like Groat, Moist, Angua and especially Stanley. I was less happy with Ridcully (who seemed a bit too wise/Gandalf/Dumbledore) and the Golems, who pretty much just looked like guys in rubber suits. But still, I rather enjoyed this one.

I definately agree with that!
It really was a better production all round, but i think the story was easier to adapt. Much less magic involved so it was easier to identify with and keep up with the story.
I feel that only having Angua from the Watchmen involved was pure fanservice though! Lol
Sure they made many many changes from the book, and a lot of it was cut, but I didn't care about that. The pace of the story, the acting and the visuals were fantastic. It was a little confusing as to why certain jokes in the book dialog were left out when the scene was left in (but I felt exactly the same about the H2G2 movie, which sucked a LOT).
I think this new director gets what a good movie/telemovie should be like, whereas Vadim Jean knew what Discworld looked like, he just wasn't very good at casting or directing his poorly chosen cast.

Every time I picture Sam Vimes and Fred Colon, I picture these guys;
My favorite character is Lord Vetinari, who I think is badass.
