what are the pluses for?

on the front forum page, the users online, some users have pluses next to their names. why?

    I don't see any plusses (at the moment) but I do see a small Max head next to one of the TTG people's username

    It means they're on your friends list. You can edit that list here.

    Yes, Pinchpenny, I am aware of that friends and contacts thing. I have been into my User CP more than once. But thanks for the response! It's so obvious now!

    Actually, if I'm not mistaken, the + only means they're a contact, doesn't it? I think there are people I have as contacts but not friends, and they have a +.

    Apparently, since you can chose for people to be one but not the other. Or so it seems to me.
