edited May 2010 in General Chat
WOOHOO futurama is almost back baby! Best show on tv ever! i hope it doesn't change much due to it's going over to comedy central.. Either way probably for the best i still can't understand why fox canceled it.
Who's as excited as i am?

Because they keep messing up with the time slots. Then Matt Groening, David X. Cohen etc. decided to call it quits.

    But, yeah, terribly excited.

You have access to the internet. Surely there's a way to get your hands on it earlier.

Yeah, Ibet there are literally tens of websites that stream futurama.

Despite the fact that that sounded incredibly sarcastic, I am, in fact, agreeing with you. >.>

But how many are completely 100% legal? I'd be willing to put money on very few, if any, are viewable outside the US.

Isn't the quality usually terrible when people put up episodes of anything anywhere on the Internet?

No, actually there's HD quality stuff there too.

If you're paying for a licence fee I don't see it as a major crime to catch some TV earlier. If you're plagued by guilt just watch it again when it airs over here. I know i'll be watching me some Futurama next month :)

I keep wondering if this is a good idea. The series ended very well. Bender's Big Score was amazing, but I wasn't too fond of the second movie, and the third...while good enough as a series of episodes, felt like it lacked cohesion. And it too ended in a good place, where I could conceivably say "Yeah, I'm glad it ended there".

I don't want Futurama to become one of those shows that goes on until I stop liking it, or that ends in a place that isn't satisfying. That's something I've always seen as a blessing of ending on The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings, it was quite possibly the best episode of the entire series run and it ended in a place that was a satisfying end to the show as a whole.

This would've been a good opportunity to start a thread with:

Def, as a final hurrah it was a fantastic episode, but i'm gonna have faith for now in the writers. Either way at the end of the day we'll get to see some new episodes and some new giggles will be had

    Like the Simpsons?

Not really, actually. Despite a similar pedigree, Futurama has a narrative flow that includes growth for the characters and an actual progression. It's not there every episode, and it's not always incredibly important, but time does actually move forward for these characters(and not just that one time in Episode 1, though I admit that example is the most drastic).

So it would be more like a narrative show that keeps going until you feel like it should have ended, rather than a purely episodic show.

Oh my, I didn't realise it was coming back so soon! I'll have to watch all the DVDs to get ready for it.

Just please for the love of God don't go the way of Family Guy. As soon as the reigns were loosened on censorship FG just went for as much smut and crude humour as they could, forgetting the intelligence and brilliance that came with the edge of the line jokes in the pre cancellation series'. It was a mistake they are still recovering from.

I promise you it will never go in that direction. Family Guy was always leaning in that direction from the very beginning, whereas Futurama is rarely ever very crude; it's always had more intelligent humour than Family Guy has ever had and is far more tame than Family Guy has ever been.

...and this is coming from a person who really likes Family Guy.
  • What a shame this didn't actually happen. Futurama became so crude and crass when it was brought back, it's no surprise the ratings dropped like a lead balloon. What a shame as it was a great series before it was cancelled (for the first time).

Why? Do you need to bump it further? Let it go!
