S&M 301 won't start: "The application failed to initialize properly"

Hi all, thanks for reading!

I finally got around to trying out Sam & Max 301 "The Penal Zone" today, but when I try to launch it, I get this error message:

This is on Windows XP, SP2. All the season 2 Sam & Max games have worked on this very installation.

I tried to use some application which showed that these dll files are missing (large image):

Now they seem to be related to some C runtime libraries which I have no clue how to fix. I tried installing .NET runtime 2.0, that didn't help.

Would anyone happen to know what I need to do to be able to play?

    In case anyone else would happen to run into this, the solution was to install the .NET framework 3.5!

    This solution helped me too! Strange though, that I had to downgrade from .Net framework 4.0 to 3.5 to make the game work.. :confused:
