Tales of Monkey Island ep 1 hard lockup on OS X
Hi,
I grabbed the game a while back when it was offered for free and had this issue and never got back to it, however I bought a software bundle recently that contained all the episodes and figured I'd give it another crack. Unfortunately I've been hit with same issue now.
Basically, it gets some way into the first part of the game, then completely locks up the laptop - I have to power it down to recover. The point in the game where it does this seems fairly random: the first time I played it I got as far as assembling the voodoo sword and using it on lechuck before it locked; the second time it locked as soon as guybrush appeared; the last time it locked just after guybrush appeared and lechuck does some spell thing (not sure what, it locked, and it's been a while since I saw that bit from the first run through).
I searched the forums and there appear to be other people using a similar system to me who also had problems, but theirs were much more mundane (crashing on startup, etc) and I didn't find any references to a hard lockup.
My specs:
OS X 10.6.3
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro2,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.33 GHz
Memory: 2 GB
ATI Radeon X1600:
VRAM (Total): 256 MB
It seems the ATI Radeon X1600 is causing problems for a few developers; I have a problem with another game (Jolly Rover) that is graphics related (and I have seen others talk about the same issue, so I doubt it's my system).
I would appreciate any advice, as I am quite keen to play the games.
Thanks.

Here are the last few lines from the debug log in Console.app:

I'm playing on 1920x1200, and have tried at several graphics levels. Any thoughts?

From what little I can glean from that (which is probably more than I give myself credit for), it looks like you have some corrupted files. Have you tried reinstalling?
I have also tried playing the game at the lowest graphics setting, and it still locks up.
Unfortunately, ToMI and TDPH have problems with Macbook Pros. Nobody is quite sure why.
Jolly Rover is having issues on Mac running through Steam. A friend of mine has a Mac Book Pro and gave me the following information:
"I actually had a little trouble getting it to run on my MacBook Pro (It's the Steam version of Jolly Rover). It was only on the third attempt that I was able to get the game started up; the previous two times I ended up stuck with fullscreen black. Had to force-quit it using the magic "option-command-esc" force-quit key combination. Once I got it running, though, I set it to run in a window and it's been fine ever since."
My versions of Tales of Monkey Island are not running on Steam, however I also have issues with Jolly Rover Demo (through Steam) which are graphics glitches during the game that make it unplayable, however no lockup issues. I've reported this to the developer via email after twittering about it but haven't yet heard anything back (that wouldn't be you, would it Brawsome?). While the two issues may be related (ATI X1600 graphics card seems to be the common theme for people with these issues) I don't think it's Steam, per se.
