monkey island mac movement problem

hi
just tried to play my newly downloaded monkey island, chapter 1. but guy just won't turn left (my left) Initally tried to used my mousepad but just couldn't get him to go where I needed him so tried my mouse but that doesn't work either. He's very happy going right but when I try left the cursor just jumps and he's off with a mind of his own. I've tried talking to him but he's very subborn.

using a mac

    Have you tried using WASD or the arrow keys on your keyboard to move him instead of your mouse?

    thanks, that only occurred to me just after i posted. that works just fine

    If you'd still like to use the mouse (I know I do ;)), Will's solution might do the trick.
