I don't get it.

edited June 2010 in General Chat
There's more people viewing the ToMI forum than there are people viewing the S&M forum and S&M is the ongoing game.

Why not another ToMI season right away? I just don't get it?

    I just don't get it?

Life is confusing sometimes, but there are better mysteries to be solved like ......

I think it's good to have a break between seasons. Increases anticipation, and you don't grow tired of the characters and game-world.

And ToMI was just released for PS3 so there may be new people to the games..

On a side note I bought the game yet again for the PS3 that way I can sit on my couch and watch the kids play it..

Didn't ToMI come out after Sam and Max Season 2? It would be wierd to have the next ToMI season come on the heels of the last one.

I'm sure after The Devil's Playhouse we'll probably hear more on the next ToMI season.

I would not be surprised if they make ToMI season two along side the stand alone Back to the Future and Jurassic Park games... Kind of like they are releasing S&M 3 and Puzzle Agent at the same time.

Or it could just be wishfull thinking... but didn't they just put out a call for new employees? Maybe they are gearing up to make more than one series at a time

I didn't mean right, right away. I meant after S3 of S&M. Before Jurassic Park.

This might be unpopular but i would prefer something else than TOMI2, not now and if it comes, i would prefer it beeing different than TOMI.

About the higher number of visitors to the MI forum: There's also anticipation for the LeChuck's Revenge Special Edition to consider. That and the PS3 ToMI players could be drawing more traffic even without a new MI game to talk about/wait for. Not to mention Monkey Island still has a larger fandom than Sam & Max.

Also, what jp-30 and Zonino said. It's good to have breaks between seasons, even long-ish ones, so that revisiting old characters and worlds continues to feel welcome rather than stale. For both aesthetic and practical (read: financial) reasons, this can be a good thing.

I think it should be different too -- just as all the other MI games have had noteworthy differences between them.

Also note that Sam & Max is the only set of multi-season games Telltale have created thus far. I'm pretty sure any other license they decide to make a second season for will be adjusted for accordingly.

I'm sure they also need time to actually make it. Like, write the story, design the new characters, etc. Just because it's not out right now doesn't mean they haven't been working on it.
Although variety is probably good for them. Being able to work on a different series, with different characters and a different kind of situations. You can't just work on the same thing over and over again without burning out.

They also need LA's permission. Who knows how the current management will utilize their older properties?

I'd be very surprised if Telltale's contract with LucasArts was only for one season. I'm not sure if changing management can/will have any effect on deals already signed.

A meal at a restaurant is much more satisfying when you have to wait a little while to get it, is it not?

I guess the same applies to good video game sequels.

I dunno, maybe I'm just talking crap.

Are we SURE there will be a Season 2? I'd absolutely love there to be but any real evidence from Telltale and with regards to licensing?
  • edited June 2010
Well, true, there is no actual evidence. However, consider these facts:
    1) That TMI teaser ending...
    2) The MI-franchise resurrection thanks to the Special Editions and TMI
    3) TMI was received very positively by fans and new players alike.

In short, it's good, it sells, it's fun and the Telltale Team enjoys making these games, We'd get another one sooner or later.

I also think the ToMI DVDs that are shipping now, and the Deluxe Edition that's about to ship, has quite a lot to do with it.. :)

Agreed. Although I don't actually want Monkey Island to continue any further at all. ToMI was pushing it, but it did it right.

There are several things to consider..

    1) did LA give TTG permission to make only one season just as a trial to see if it would work?

    2) If not can they come to another agreement?... will TTG try to get more money now that the method is proven? or will LA NOT want to share the profit this time around and make it themselves?... seeing as how their own MI games are selling pretty darn well themselves.... They may want their Special Edition team to make a new Monkey Island game and keep all the profit themselves.... Then we will see if they even acknowledge what TTG has done... I.E. including the Voodoo Lady story, Morgan, and Winslow..... oh and Treasure Crab.

    3) we have yet to see what the new LA president will do with the old licenses..

    4) Is LA seeing how well MI2 SE sells before they make more?
