Chariots of the Dogs is still my favorite, but the Penal Zone and They Stole Max's Brain tie for a close second.

    I chose:

'Chariots of the Dogs' - best episode up until season 3 came along; time travel is an instant win.
'The Penal Zone' - my absolute favourite episode of Sam & Max; the most original, the nicest looking, and the most enjoyable.
'The Tomb of Sammun-Mak' - the Orient Express boosts this episode into second place for me. That train was one of the few things that actually deserved an appreciation thread.
'They Stole Max's Brain!' - quite a clever episode with some excellent new characters, and a side to Sam that we've never seen before.

Oooh, tough question. Need to debate with myself on this.... It's never so much about what I ENJOYED the most as which episodes I remember most VIVIDLY. I have a poor memory...

    Season 1: Episodes 2, 4, & 5.
    Season 2: Episodes 1, 3, & 5.
Season 3: Episode 2 (I loved it immidiatly, but I'm waiting for the season to finish to pick the other 2. It also doesn't help that I've only played each episode once sofar. I'll play them all again after the season is completed).

    TOP 4:

Season 1 winner: Reality 2.0; for the look & the Tron/Atari nostolgia.
Season 2 winner tie: Ice Station Santa; Best story, hardcore Santa.
Season 2 winner tie: Night of the Raving Dead; Zombies, techno, cute vampire.
Season 3 winner (sofar): Tomb of Sammun-Mak: Old-timeyness, Sam with moustache, Jergen, funny mole girl.

What I liked in the runner ups:

Situation Comedy: Messing up TV shows, cooking with nonfood items.
Abe Lincoln Must Die: Spaceball, the War song, messing with campaign signs, Abe's voice is perfect.
What's New Beelzebub: Docile Devil, Hell's filing cabinet, Wizzer pissing fire, annoying the employees.

The tomb of SammunMak was def my favourite by far, but Night of the Raving dead is also worth a replay.

I picked my favorite from every season.

    1. Abe Lincoln Must Die!
This will probably always be one of my favorites. First time I saw that musical number, it was totally unexpected and is one of the most memorable moments in my life as a gamer.

    2. Chariots of the Dogs
This episode is just completely random insanity.

    3. The Penal Zone
I don't know, this whole episode just seems to be so much more polished than any other episode, plus Skunkape is probably my most favorite villain in the entire series.

reality 2.0 / chariots of the dogs / the tomb of sammun-mak

between seasons, I like most season 2 episodes (except the Moai one) more than any other episode in the other two series.

    Chariots of the dogs... jackass.

    Definitely Reality 2.0. No contest.

The best episode is always the next one!
So the second best is 303.

I enjoy a lot of them, but my top favorites would be...

    1: The Tomb of Sammun-Mak

    2: Moai Better Blues

    3: Chariots of the Dogs

    4: They Stole Max's Brain!

    5: Situation Comedy

    3 - They Stole Max's Brain!

It's easy to say your favorites are the Season 3 episodes since they're the newest and have the freshest concept.
But looking at all seasons I choose Reality, Chariot and Tomb.
  • edited July 2010
    Chariots of the Dogs

The best of the series I've played so far. The dialogue, puzzles and randomness together with invoking the feeling of always wanting to know what's next makes this a winner.

The Mole, the Mob, and the Meatball

I just loved the whole toy mafia theme and, of course, "Just you and me (and Ted E. Bear)"!

I think my top 3 are:
    1. They Stole Max's Brain
Feels very fresh, loved the noir, and had a good twist.
    2. Reality 2.0
The changed environment, "hacking" the game, and "killing people" made the game feel very different.
    3. The Mole, The Mob, and the Meatball
This episode was great when I was only playing the demo! It felt like such a good game, just with the atmosphere, and.. it's kind of unexplainable.

"We have nothing to fear but fear itself. And the El-Chupakabra, Matre de Dios! Its going to kill us all!"
104, was imo, the best S&M episode. Night of the Raving dead came close but nothing beats the elections in 104.

Season 1 - Situation Comedy (It was fun getting that newspaper, the Record contract and the video tape of Midtown Cowboys)
Season 2 - Chariots of the Dogs (Time Travelling! :) )
Season 3 - They Stole Max's Brain! (Was interesting going through the suspects and stopping Sammun-Mak)

These are my favorite. Out of all, it's They Stole Max's Brain

Chariots of the Dogs is the best among Season Two episodes, which is an incredible feat. The Season Two episodes were the cream of the crop, Telltale at its very best. It's extremely easy to say that Season Two is still say it's the best video game experience I've had in the past five years.

It's also extremely easy to say the three worst have been the last three episodes of Season Three.

Chariots of the Dogs is brilliant.

I chose Chariots of the Dogs and What's new, Beelzebub? Chariots of the dog was also the first episode that I didn't have to use a guide.
  • edited July 2010
I like many, but my favorite may be What's New, Beelzebub, since many characters are involved. I like stories where there are many characters who participate actively in the plot, or in 205's case, the puzzles.

Season 1: Abe Lincoln Must Die! Brilliant episode, with a twisted election and big lipped alligator moment.
Season 2: Night of the Raving Dead. Loved the setting, the characters and the whole concept of Sam and Max turning into zombies.
Season 3: The Tomb of Sammun-Mak. Radical story-telling and jokes, just loved it.

Overall, I think the Tomb of Sammun-Mak is my favorite.
As for the worst episodes in my opinion...

Season 1: Situation: Comedy. It even stopped me from playing for weeks, it just killed the pace for me. Once I got past that and started on The Mole, the Mob and the Meatball, things got better.
Season 2: Moai Better Blues. Still a good episode, but felt too much on the slow and unnecessary side. Loved the kid freelance police.
Season 3: They Stole Max's Brain. Still great, just not as good as the other ones.

Worst? The one that stopped me from playing, of course. : P

My rankings of all the episodes are in my sig.

My top episode has to be The Tomb of Sammun-Mak, because it's just one of the most intricate (story-wise) and enjoyable episode I've played in ages...I thought it was genius to devolve into Jurgen's back story and to use the movie projector to transport the duo to Egypt, and there was even many laugh out loud moments. Very pleased with this beloved episode indeed.

Abe Lincoln Must Die! is my second favourite for its pitch perfect plot, loving satire, the introduction of Superball and Abe himself (although not his best appearance). Playing the game is also one of the smoothest of the series, as revelations or item collecting move the story at the perfect speed without overwhelming the player. It's also very funny.

Moai Better Blues, (possibly the most hated episodes of season 2 for others), wins third place for me for so many reasons. Instead of taking the pressures of a case, the freelance Police are eased into this holiday resort (wonderfully designed by the way) with strange portals, freakish babies and piranha infested waterfalls, all of which make up an eleborate and complex set of puzzle designs that are just ingenius. The pace for this episode is exactly perfect to me (in the style of season one, which season three seems to have thankfully returned to). So really, the only thing missing from this episode is some good jokes; sure there's humour but sadly not enough to rival other episodes...

    Season 1: Reality 2.0
The 8-Bit parts (especially for the music) and good puzzles make this one of the best episodes of all time.

Sason 2: Night Of THe Raving Dead
but only by an inch. Chariots Of the Dogs might have taken first place here but the Mariachi Song kinda ruins it for me and I love to rave to "New LOcation Unlocked (Midtown Remix)"

Season 3: The Tomb Of Sammun Mak
I really like the time traveling concept here and the elves and the death scenes and just about everything else. Really brilliant episode.
