Sam & MAx 304, Mac: Graphics crash

I've tried starting a game twice and both times, at some point during the intro, the screen turned black almost completely, except for the upper like 15% which remained as usual and further 15% which flickered.

Running a 15" MBP mid 2009, completely updated, non-english.

With the integrated 9400M graphics, this happened at some point during the fight between the Stinkys.
With the 9600M GT it occured right after the opening credits.

This is the third of four episodes in this season which I cannot play at release. :(

    tried it a third time, full screen this time. now, after the intro, the screen just remains black, but I hear the voices of the game beginning.

    resolved: I just put graphics quality to 1 before I start a new game, then I wait until the intro is finished, then I put it back to 9 and it works well so far.
