Playstation Plus=Xbox Live Gold

edited July 2010 in General Chat
Yep a way to nickel & dime us.

I just logged into the PS Store moments ago to see that the new Kane & Lynch demo(a game I really couldn't give two shits about to be honest) was for Playstation Plus users only. Now if there was one thing that I always liked more about the PS3 than the 360 is that this kinda crap wasn't pulled. All users were treated equally & (as long as they had the asking price *free or not*) could download whatever the hell they wanted on day one... I guess thats over with. I mean whats next? Eliminating free online multiplayer? Charging you to use the web browser?

This is total BS & is only going to get MUCH worse with time.

Yeah -- because offering significant discount on items, offering free items, and offering early access to demos and betas just screams "nickel n' dime."

At least Playstation Plus feels more like a choice, and more like a reward program than a requirement.

I haven't subscribed to it and probably won't, but the only part of it that might affect me in some way is the delayed demos, but I usually don't even play demos anyway, as I can judge pretty well if I'll like a game or not based on screenshots, trailers, gameplay videos, etc.

I also think it's been implemented partially because the free online play has been a lot more expensive than they had initially thought it would be, and to try to recoup the costs for that, but if they take away the free online play, I'll be enraged.

Sony's top executives have confirmed numerous times that they have no desire or plans to take away free online play from its users. So, I doubt you'll ever see that happen.

If they weren't taking away features from us to add to there little pay to play plan, then I might be more inclined to agree. Why Sony thought this would be a good idea is beyond me.

I do think the Demo system is BS. Demos are supposed to be free, UNLESS the demo is an early access one (like what there was on PC when you preordered L4D).

I don't own a PS3, but if that demo status doesn't change then that's stupid.

Well, I didn't say I thought it would happen, just that I would be enraged if it did. :p

Demos are free -- it's just timed exclusivity for Plus Subscribers. Standard users will be able to download it eventually, more than likely next week.

They haven't taken any features away whatsoever. Qore Subscribers received early demos as well. This is nothing new.

Kane & Lynch 2 demo is available on the European Store today for all...no restrictions.

At least you're still allowed to play online without a Playstation Plus account. Not so with Xbox Live Gold.

    Blah blah blah

This is total BS & is only going to get MUCH worse with time.

    1) PlayStation Plus is not Xbox Live Gold. They're not charging you for online play, you do not need to pay Sony extra for use of services like Netflix or Hulu, nor for demos.
    2) PlayStation Plus is a benefits program that allows you access demos one week early, newly introduced services (Like the one that lets you back up your game saves online), and perks like a access to Qore, discounts on store items, and full access to a rotating library of downloadable games.
    3) Nowhere are they taking away anything that they initially offered when the system and PSN were introduced.

PlayStation Underground isn't a game! Nor is Power Supply Unit. O.o

Also, you do need to pay for Hulu, unless you mean along side being a P+ member then I don't think so.

I know you have to pay for Hulu. You also need to pay for Netflix. My point is that even if you subscribe to these services, you need to pony up for Xbox Live Gold in order to use them on the 360, whereas you do not need to acquire any additional subscriptions and/or pay any extra fees to use them on the PS3.

You need to have Playstation+ to use Hulu not Netflix.

There was some confusion regarding that. PlayStation Plus is only required during the preview period. It will not be required when it fully launches.
