The PS3's Web Browser Sucks

edited July 2010 in General Chat
The damn thing freezes the whole system just about every time I use it.

Has anyone else had problems with it?

Yeah. Yes, it has tabbed browsing, but it's so freaking slow, and trying to navigate with the PS3 controller is a hassle.

    At least it has one.

I never had any problems with it....other than not using a mouse sucks. And a keyboard.

That logic is flawed.... excuse something for being terrible just because it is there in the first place.

Well, being a optimist can be healthy, esp when you can't change anything about it, unless you have a old system and haven't updated it and still have Linux on it.

I had to use it for a month when my pc broke...yes it was painfully slow and crashes the system more than occasionally but at least it could run Gamespot's e3 coverage :p i agree that its terrible but a useful backup which I'd rather have than not at all

Xbox 360 doesn't even have a browser, hence my post. I didn't say "it's awesome because it exists" just that it does in fact exist and is semi-usable most of the time, which is better than it not existing.

It's not like they're foisting it on you... just don't use it if you don't like it.

No, THAT logic is flawed. Surely something is better than nothing. If it's actually detrimental to you, however, (like if it makes you angry), then you're right in a sense.

So you are telling me that if the PS2 had played DVDs properly only once out of every 5 uses that people wouldn't be pissed off simply because that one time it did work was "better than nothing"?
    Get real.

When something is announced as a selling point, then people have just reasoning to complain that it doesn't work properly.

Some people don't have any other options if they want to use the internet.

I thought the selling points of PS3 were HD gaming machine and Blu-ray player, and internet browser was just a little side feature that was kind of neat, but I could be wrong.

You could use your Wii's browser, or your toaster's. Pretty much anything with electricity has a browser these days, unless it's an Xbox 360.

Lol. Yes, if a DVD player worked 20% of the time, it is automatically better than something that doesn't exist and therefore works 0% of the time.

    It's called common sense.

Its not the greatest..... You can however hook up USB stuff to it just fine like a keyboard.

What really gets me is that on a 1080p screen it only uses about 50% of the width for the browser. So if you're viewing a website that's designed for 1080p you have to scroll left and right. D'oh!

It does have a zoom feature, you know.

Hit either L3 or R3 (I forget which), then you can use L2 and R2 to zoom in and out.

Browsing on consoles (at this stage) will always be a poor mans experience* compared to more traditional ways of browsing the web

*the irony of calling something on the PS3 a poor mans experience is not lost on me
