Why isn't anyone talking about Limbo?

edited August 2010 in General Chat
Okay, so I've been wanting to post about this game for weeks now, but was too lazy to start a new thread and kept checking to see if anyone was discussing it elsewhere. Seriously, this is the most amazing game I've played this year. Sorry, MI2:SE and Deathspank.

If you love cinematic and puzzle platformers such as Another World and Braid, Limbo is a no-brainer. Independently made, Limbo is a case study in minimalist design and a watershed moment for games as art. Only available on xbox live arcade, unfortunately, but if you have the means, I can't recommend it enough.

Because I don't have an Xbox.
However, I've been meaning to play it on LBP because they recreated the game on LBP.

I'm waiting for the seaons to change before I start playing- Limbo feels much more like an autumn/winter game for me (though I probably should have held off pickking it up in case they have an offer before I start playing properly :) )

Because I've grown weary of the indie games that have a message behind them.

    Because it simply isn't fun

I heard it was fantastic, but I'd rather buy it on my PS3. If it doesn't come out on PS3 eventually, I'll buy it on XBox.

You don't like many things, do you?

If there's ever a PC version, I'll probably get it.

No... I like plenty... this game however is just some generic indie game that is sturring up a storm because it is different then the Arcade games that XBOX users are accustomed to. It is just a glorified interactive art project that is far too short & hasn't enough substance to be entertaining.

This is only my opinion of course... If you enjoy it, far forbid me to try to talk you out of enjoying it.

Agreed. That can apply to any opinion, really.

Including the opinion that if you enjoy something, far forbid me to try to talk you out of enjoying it?

I meant to say any opinion that looks at the subject badly then.

Just curious, have those of you claiming Limbo isn't fun or has a cloyingly pretentious "message," actually played the game? Because I have, and disagree with both statements. I found the gameplay to be simple but engrossing, the art direction and sound design masterful, and the story, however vague, intriguing. You're free to disagree of course, but at least check it out first.

I've only played a demo, but it was really fun. Some people are bound to be put off it because it's pretentious, but I honestly don't see how the affects the gameplay. Plenty of pieces of art are still good despite the author's intention, so just because the developers wanted to create an artsy, avant-garde experience doesn't mean you have to see it as anything other than a platforming game in the same way that you can read animal farm as just a fun little book about talking animals.

I just played through that without knowing anything about it. I feel robbed... especially since the message was "be anti-conformist, bro!" which is just silly.

    What message is behind it?

I'm not talking about Limbo because we're already three deep and I don't wanna even entertain the idea. Hurr hurr

    "KK IL C U L8R DNT 4GET MILK LOL"

if you don't do anything for 30 minutes the game melts away and you can see it.

Oh I thought you meant in the story

? Should I understand something for a game I've never played or heard other then"It's fun" about?

It's awesome to see all this LIMBO hate. Everywhere else seems to be falling all over themselves in praise.
  • edited August 2010
I'd really like to try it, but alas, no Xbox. :(

I played the demo. Twisted and creepy. I love that there's absolutely no soundtrack in the game. None that I could discover anyway. I like how Yahtzee put it: "A game developed by manic depressives for manic-depressives". I may get it at some point. Maybe. The idea of a creepy puzzle platformer sounds interesting and I was reasonably entertained enough to wonder how it all turns out in the end.
