Little known adventure games

edited August 2010 in General Chat
What are your favourite little-known adventure games? Ones that never sold well, or few people have heard of? I remember one i played as a kid, which was probably my first adventure game. It was called "Pink Pankther: Hokus Pokus Pink". It was awesome. You visited different countries and continents searching for parts for a potion. It was fully voiced, and was one of the first games i know of that had an in-built, indepth walkthrough And, it was semi-educational! Often with songs! If you see it, it's well worth picking up. In fact, i'm gonna replay it!

Pendulo Studios' first game "Hollywood Monsters" is kind of nifty, but it's entirely in Spanish.

I think quite a few DS gamers know of it, but never bought it. It was a fantastic game though, and one of my favourite DS games. It's just a shame the sequel had to get canned because the developer went bust.

@ShodanFreeman: Does it have English subtitles at all?

Thomas & Tim. I guarantee nobody has heard of it. Whenever I google it I get things like "Tim Thomas, CEO of Company McBusiness" and stuff. After rigorous searching, I found out that it's based on a Dutch (I think) cartoon called Thomas og Tim. Anybody familiar with that? The game I played was voiced by British actors in English, but I guess it was probably translated from Dutch too.

Bone 2 - The great cow race.

    Really, give it a try!

Didn't get canned. It was out in Japan before they even went bust and is due to come out in Europe on the 17th of september. There's no announcement of a US release same as with the Wii sequel to Another Code (Trace Memory in the US), another of Cing's franchises. Poor Cing... If you can, import both.

Gah, Ninja'd again! But yeah, import them if you can. You may have a problem region-wise with the Wii one, so do a little research before investing, but the DS is region-free, so at least that one's not a problem.

As for the original topic... Adventures in the Galaxy of Fantabulous Wonderment. It's by Yahtzee, but is inevitably overshadowed by his immensely better known Chzo Mythos series. It's also a slightly odd mix of classic adventure gaming, platforming and space sim. But it has adventure game sections, so I'm counting it. Also, it's brilliant. Go give it a try.

On a similar subject, give his other games a try. Anything above the Rob Blanc trilogy in that list is generally pretty awesome, though the bottom two games aren't particularly amazing. But then, most people's first games aren't, really.

Not to my knowledge, but if you had a basic Spanish class at some point, and access to a Spanish dictionary, you can fumble your way through it. :p

I live in the UK, so i'll have to pick that up. I used to be really hot on releases...

And I have Another code R, fantastic game. Vastly superior to the original (if only because it's much longer)

Guilty, a.k.a. Innocent Until Caught 2: Presumed Guilty. It's the first point & click adventure game I ever played, the first "talkie" game I ever played, and one of the first CD-ROM games I ever played.

Don't know how well known they are, but fun to play anyway:
    Dangeresque
    Peasant's Quest

I completely love the Pajama Sam games, in fact, I love all the Humongous Entertainment Games. I think they can count as little known as they're really only meant for little kids, but I played them at an early age and now they've become a part of me.

However, the most recent PJ (Life is Rough when you lose your Stuff) is licensed by Atari, and it also ruined Pajama Sam's voice, therefore I hate it.

They need to make more of them, though.

    I know quite a few.

First, there's the, for its time, decently known Little Big Adventure and its sequel. It's mostly action adventure with platforming elements, although the platforming elements were, to be honest, quite rubbish. It was a fun game though.

Then we have Ark of Time. It's a point and click adventure which I never was able to finish, so I don't even know the ending. We lost the game disc, so chances are I will never find out.

Then probably Down in the Dumps, also a point and click adventure. Also never finished it, but it's pretty good.

I liked most the previous game, "Pink Panther: Passport to Peril". It was more game-ish, and less educational-ish. If I remember correctly, it was the second adventure game I've ever played.

The first adventure game I played was "Mortadelo y Filemón: El Sulfato Atómico" by Alcachofa Soft, the guys who lately did "The Abbey". In fact, I think most Alcachofa Soft's games are little known adventure games (most of them are Spanish only). Their very first game, "Drascula", can be downloaded for free on the ScummVM page (in several languages including English, if I'm not wrong)

Actually, their first game was "Igor: Objetivo Uikokahonia", also entirely in Spanish and almost impossible to find now. It was a pretty nice game. "Hollywood Monsters" was their second game, by the way.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one.

I never played that, but i'll have to look out for it!

I kinda enjoyed the educational aspect of PP:HPP, because that, coupled with the simplified controls (you don't have to make him walk anywhere), make it a perfect game for youngsters.

Complete and utter lies. Igor was released in English, and I should know, since I've played it. It's freeware now, so feel free to grab it, though bear in mind that you may need DosBox to get it working properly.

The sequel came out in Japan. They just never ported it to America and soon for EU. Developer is still active. They never went bust, they just filed for Brankruptcy. They're still working on games.
They also had a came come out recently in April in America and August 3rd this year aswell.
For me Fragile Dreams. It's a TPS Adventure game for the Wii. I've not met anyone who played it other then my friends who I convinced to buy the game, and they love it.

Amber seems to be pretty obscure, least.. nobody I know has ever heard of it. DAMN I wish I could finish it but xo and it do not get along.

I enjoyed 5 days a stranger, but haven't played the sequels yet. It was very... clocktoweresk lol. Ahh Clocktower.
Ialso rather liked Veil of Darkness but never could finish it. A glitch made it impossible... alas. I'll have to replay that.

I also suggest anyone who hasn't buys and plays Sanitarium but that's not very obscure I don't think. Same with The Dark Eye.

And yeah, it's not an adventure game but everyone should still play Planescape:Torment just because it's freaking awesome. It didn't sell that well at release apparently, but it's a great game.

I loooove Little Big Adventure(and moreso its sequel). I must find it now.

I don't really have anything to contribute at all except maybe the Ecoquest games(although I'd only really recommend the second one, definetly one of my favourites), and the Kyrandia series. Which both I think are pretty well known in the adventure clique.

Here's a game only that probably only 5 people have played
Scooby Doo Classic Creep Capers (GBC) It's not the best adventure game but is is pretty entertaining.

Flight of the Amazon Queen is good game too, it's freeware now anyway.

    That brings back memories.

    I know.
Fred: We know that The Ghost comes when the clock strikes the hour.
Shaggy: When did we learn that?
    Fred: When you weren't looking.
  • edited August 2010
I only played the scooby adventure on Sega. It was so fun. How does the GBC one compare to the sega one?

I had that (scooby doo) on the N64! Although from the looks of thinsg it was completely different. Still, there was a suit of armour that chased you round the museum, clanking away that used to scare the hell out of me!

I still have that on the N64. The castle level is awesome. The whole game is awesome. I'm really happy I can still play it.

I've never played it on Genesis, but the GBC one was one of the best(only?) adventure games for the handheld.

Oddly enough the Scooby Doo game also caught my interest.

Yes it's Danish, I have watched the cartoon show, and the word "og" is the Danish word for "and".
Here is all the information about it IMDB.

And as for me, I have nothing at all maybe some tiny adventure flash games here and there, but nothing I can even begin to remember the names of.

I remember the Mortadelo y Filemon games, I´ve played "Mortadelo y filemon: La máquina Meteoroloca" and the Pink Panther: Passport to Peril. I´ played Toonstruck, and Simon Sorcerer 3d, it´s a good game despite the graphics.
