Sam and Max 305 crashing when run

edited August 2010 in Game Support
Hi there

I've not had any technical problems this season up until now, but I'm afraid I'm having problems running the latest Sam and Max game :(

One of two things seem to be happening when I attempt to run the game. There doesn't seem to be any pattern or logic regarding which happens; just one of the two will occur.)

The first thing that seems to happen is that the game throws up two windows; one is completely white and has to be killed with the Task Manager.
The second, which is inelegantly hidden behind the first, contains the following error message:
Could not initialise Direct3D

Make sure you have current video drivers and close any other applications that may be running.
Unfortunately I've tried doing both and neither work.

The second thing is that the game runs briefly, but crashes when I try to go into the settings screen to change the options.
Here's one copy and paste of the error that's returned for that one:
Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:	APPCRASH

I've also tried redownloading and reinstalling, but alas no go there either.

A little bit upsetting, as I can't wait to see the ending...

Have you tried disabling your second display?

Hi there, thanks for your reply.

I've just tried that, and it seem that got it running.
It's a bit of a hack - I don't really want to lose my second display for very long. But hey, I can play through the game.

In some cases it was only necessary to disable it for the first start of the episode.
