Need help with a monologue.

edited September 2010 in General Chat
So I have a creative arts class, and we need to present a monologue to the class next week. I was going to go with something game related, and I thought Telltalers might now a thing or two about great speeches in video games.

My first choice was going to be Heavy Rain's trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyubR1rknBM

Thing is, it can only run for 1 minute, and I don't really feel comfortable cutting down 3 minutes to 1.

So this is where you come in! Either suggest a way to cut that down effectively, or suggest a whole different game altogether!
Only conditions are, it has to run for 1 minute only. And it has to be a monologue(ie. one person speaking)
Thanks for any help in advance. :) Any comments are appreciated immensely.

I'm not entirely sure that the word fuck would fly in a school setting anyways

    It's a university class, it's allowed.

I had a look, I'm not really sure I can pull out a minute of things that would make sense to a class who's never heard of Sam n Max. Thanks anyway.

I'm really envious of you, in my acting class our monologue had to be AT LEAST three minutes. It couldn't be done from any sort of character that was animated, couldn't be a narrative or voice-over, (IE. we couldn't do Rorschach) and it couldn't be a book monologue or a monologue translated from a foreign source for whatever dumb reason.

Not only that, but if we were women we HAD to play a woman character. It was absolutely no fun trying to find a suitable monologue that met criteria and I couldn't play any of my favorite characters at all. (I couldn't do V's monologue speech in V for Vendetta because he's a man >:C )

The dumb part is that she was somehow ok with giving me a male character for the final play (I'm the Mad Hatter in Burton's Alice in Wonderland) but not ok with it for the monologue?? UGH.

Thanks for letting me rant about my awful class! I can't think of any game speeches right now, though.

Haha, that's okay! Sounds really unlucky.. I'm much more appreciative of my class now.
(I would love to do V's speech, but I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to memorise it in time.)

And anyway, atleast you get a fun character in your final play! I love those sort of parts where you get to be immensely silly and you can put a little bit of yourself into them.

Oh man, I'd totally do that, but again, I don't really have time(and possibly the brain capacity) to remember all that, haha. :p
Shouting about insanity seems like so much fun though.

You could just recite one of the Memoirs of Guybrush Threepwood. That always seems monologuey to me

Is the "War Has Changed" speech a monologue? It's a little bit less than one minute from the point when Snake starts talking and the point where Snake's briefing with Campbell begins.

EDIT: Might be more of a voice-over though.

Hmm. If I have to do a monologue again, I'd be very tempted to do a speech from the Myst series. One of Sirrus's or one of Gehn's, probably. The nice thing about a game with a silent protagonist is that almost every conversation is a monologue, although not many of them would really be suitable for that purpose.

Edit: Come to think of it, it had slipped my mind, but I did, in fact, perform one of Saavedro's short speeches from Myst 3 once, for a very informal recital. It was fun.
