Great Adventure: Whispered World keeps freezing

I've been playing The Whispered World, fantastic game, and I really love the bundle.

Unfortunately, disaster has struck, and not just in the game. Here's my problem (spoilers!):
I just froze the world and am in the Astronomer's room. The door upstairs is locked, and when I try to go through the door downstairs, the game freezes. I've tried closing and opening the game several times already, but it always freezes at the exact same time when I try to exit.

Hopefully, there's some kind of solution that doesn't involve me having to play the entire game all over again.

    Bump.

    Not only do I still have this problem, instead of just crashing after it freezes, the game will not close no matter what I do. I had to force restart my computer just to close it.

    Telltale, I know this probably isn't your fault, and even if it was, I'm not really angry at you guys. I'd just really like to find a way to beat this blasted game once and for all.
