Sam & Max Season 3 driver crash

edited September 2010 in Game Support
I'm having a problem with Sam and Max season 3 any time that I increase the graphics past level 3. I can play on any resolution I want, but not past that graphics level. What happens is that the graphics freeze while the sound keeps playing (people will finish their dialogue, then stop,) then the screen goes black, then the game comes back up and the graphics will play again.

If I alt-tab out, or am already in windowed mode when this happens, I see "The graphics driver has crashed and been recovered."

This happens about every couple of minutes. I can actually play the game, and it looks great, on graphics level 9 except for this issue.

Since I know dxdiag reports really help I'm including that too. Thanks!

Did you run the DirectX updater already?

You can further try reinstalling your graphics driver, or even an earlier version of it.
Description: Speakers (2- High Definition Audio Device)
    Date and Size: 7/13/2009 16:51:47, 304128 bytes
    Driver Provider: Microsoft

I would also try the latest Realtek HDA Drivers.

That fixed not only the driver crash problem, but also the weird static noises I'd learned to ignore over time. Thanks! :D

haha promptly after posting that the game crashed, but at least it lasted longer than five minutes this time!

Guess I'll just have to play at level 3. Thanks anyway!

That's a good start. Now you can try playing during a clean boot. If it works some other software interferes with the game.

Also: Was that dxdiag log complete? It seemed to be missing some parts.

Booting clean in Windows Vista / 7:
    1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG --> Click OK
    2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
    3. Uncheck Load Startup Items
    4. Select the Services tab
    5. Check Hide all Microsoft services
    6. Click Disable all
    7. Click on OK
    8. Click Restart.
    9. After reboot, run the game to see if it works.

After performing the necessary steps, restore your system by doing the following:

    1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG--> Click OK
    2. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
    3. Click Ok
    4. Click Yes, when asked to restart your computer
