No more Sam & Max or Monkey Island?

I don't know if there's been a discussion thread about this, but:
Finally, outside development on LucasArts-owned brands is said to be coming to an end, with BioWare's The Old Republic MMOG being the last game to not be made internally. This would mean no more LEGO Star Wars or Indiana Jones games, and no more episodes of Tales of Monkey Island as these have been handled by Traveller's Tales and Telltale Games respectively.

Just wondering if anyone on the forums or among the TT staff that have heard about this at all. I'd love to see more Monkey Island, given that I just finished playing Tales. I've yet to hunker down with Sam & Max Season 3, but I've happily bought the first two.

Being a big supporter of Telltale and their success, I really hope the above rumour turns out to be false.

Why would LucasArts stopping outside development of their properties have anything to do with Sam & Max? They don't have that anymore.

LucasArts is not and likely never will again have anything to do with the development of a Sam and Max game. They do not own the characters and never did. The rights to the characters belong to Steve Purcell, the man who created them. If they did not, we would have never seen Season One or Season Two. The only thing LucasArts owns is the original Hit the Road game, and that they have limited use of(they can't, for example, make a Special Edition of Hit the Road without Steve's go-ahead).

That's what I figured, as far as Sam & Max goes. I was talking about this with a co-worker last night and mentioned that exact fact: that Steve Purcell owns the rights to the property.

As far as Monkey Island, that might be more likely, since Tales was released through Telltale and LucasArts.
