south park and telltale

I wonder what would happen if telltale made a game about South Park?

    It would be fail-meets-commercial-success.

It would be the end of the world as we know it.

It would be a mistake. Telltale aren't suited to South Park's style, tone and humour, and South Park works best as a television show anyway.

It wouldn't be a suitable game for younger children (under age of 15) as the contents of South Park are quite often offensive for some people.

    Fix'd.

While most of it's content is offensive, even amongst a lot of the unnecessary over-the-top moments, there is some sense spoken through a fair amount of episode's messages. The show is satirical, the bad thing is that it is also quite sick where it doesn't need to be. If those sorts of things were to be cut out of the show (the really over-the-top stuff), then it would probably have a much larger audience, and any of the worthwhile underlying messages would probably penetrate a lot easier.

Am I talking in circles here?

Anyway, regardless of whether or not it's suitable for under-15's, it still isn't suited to Telltale and their style.

South Park is not offensive to all people. Yes it is satirical and it takes sensitive issues and makes fun of them and applies them to a number of comical instances. A lot of people (including me) love the show for what it is. If you don't like the show or think it's offensive then nobody is forcing you to watch it.

    Way to speak for everyone.

So, NO moments in the entire history of you watching it have offended you? WOW.

They even have an overly long disclaimer at the start of every episode that states that it has content not suitable for anyone.

My name is Kenny and South Park started becoming popular when I was in fifth grade. Guess how likely I would be to buy this game.

I'll give you a hint: the answer is between "never" and "you're joking, right?".

That must have been annoying for you.

Unbearably so. I'm so glad that by now most people have had enough of that particular joke.

Loving both, I would have to say that it could/would/should never happen, lol.

including the creators of South Park, even going out of their way to save Kenny once.

I think it would be a commercial failure. So much of SP's humor relies on timing, the rest relies on gags being set-up (scripted) that would never happen even in an adventure game setting.

On the topic of SP itself - It's a wonderful show if you can get past the offensive part. I've seen quite a bit of it and was touched by the underlying morals it tried to teach. That being said, there is so much offensive *bleep* in it that most people who watch it wont catch the morals or wont care. If it was toned down a little, even just a little, the audience would grow exponentially. We really need more shows like this today (though preferably a little less vulgar)

Nope, because I realize that it's trying to be over the top. Because of such, I don't really think much of it when it's trying to offend me.

Oh my God, they killed the Kenny-joke!

I've never been offended by it, and I've watched every single episode. I don't always agree with the stuff they say, but it seems silly to be offended by it. It's sort of like if a very left-wing person were to be offended by Steven Colbert. Sure they say ridiculous, offensive, things, but it's all obviously satirical.

I *have* been grossed out by it once though :p.

And actually on topic, I don't think South Park would make a good video game.

Blugh, Stephen Colbert doesn't offend me, but he annoys the hell out of me. I don't care if it's satire, it's grating.

So there hasn't been a single person so far who felt favorably about a Telltale-created South Park game, right?

Telltale+South Park= big trouble on how awful and bad it will be. :D

I'd feel mildly positive. It'd be new territory, but I think Telltale's writers could handle it.

Considering how the early South Park games turned out...it'd be very surprising if Matt and Trey allowed this to happen.

A South Park adventure game could work. It'd need to be written by Parker and Stone and actually have good puzzle integration. But when you do a South Park game you risk tarnishing your image somewhat.

Also I don't think i've ever been offended by South Park, they're equal-rights offenders. Family Guy however...

I'm pretty sure that if the game were to happen, they would be on the supervising/writing. I just wouldn't see it any other way.
